District Primary Purpose : To coordinate and develop the district’s gifted and talented programs, ensuring the development and implementation of specialized curricula that promote academic excellence and intellectual growth.

Department Primary Purpose : To implement and oversee initiatives focused on the development, enrichment, and support of gifted and talented students, ensuring the district nurtures and maximizes the potential of exceptional learners while maintaining a supportive educational environment.

This role is crucial for fostering a culture of continuous intellectual growth and excellence within the district.

Education / Certification :

  • Bachelor’s Degree required;
  • Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-years successful experience teaching, Campus level, and / or District-level experience implementing evidence-based practices and instructional materials required.

Qualification Requirements :

  • Experience with designing and delivering professional learning for adult learners (teachers, administrators, central office staff).
  • Knowledge of program, curricular, and assessment requirements in Texas public schools K-12.
  • Knowledge of requirements for Gifted and Talented programming aligned with state mandates.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student levels.
  • Ability to aggregate and analyze student outcome assessment data, gain insights, and communicate those insights to Principals and teachers.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate projects, work and training related to the implementation of the District’s Gifted and Talented program.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines while giving great attention to detail.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills to work effectively with educators, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing with people at all levels within and outside the organization.
  • Deep commitment to equity, inclusivity, and diversity in education.

Major Responsibilities and Duties :

  • Develop and implement Gifted and Talented programming that aligns with district goals, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Create a talent development process and mindset across the district around entry into the Gifted and Talented program to ensure equity across campuses.
  • Coordinate and provide specialized staff training for teachers, support staff, administrators, and parents focused on the Gifted and Talented program.
  • Provide expertise to administrators and school-based staff assigned to implement Gifted and Talented programs.
  • Oversee the implementation of Gifted Education Plans to ensure they reflect learning needs of all gifted learners and meet state and local requirements.
  • Assist with conducting program needs analysis and serves as program specialist to collaborate with other departments on developing procedures and practices to best support Gifted and Talented students.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

This position does not directly supervise staff but coordinates with school administrators, teachers, and other district staff to implement the Gifted and Talented program effectively.

Physical Demands :

Physical demands typical of an office and school environment, including occasional district-wide travel for meetings, trainings, and events.

Will involve direct interaction with students in various settings.

Work Environment :

Primarily office-based with regular interaction with school staff, students, and external partners. The role may require attendance at evening or weekend events as needed to support school activities and mental health and behavioral support initiatives.

Will require campus visits to ensure implementation and quality of service delivery model.
