Position: Structured Literacy Reading Instructor / Tutor
Hours: Part-time, roughly 5 to 10 hours a week mostly after school hours
Compensation: $28-30/hr. depending on qualifications and experience

La Jolla Learning is a private 1:1 educational organization that provides instruction at several offices in the San Diego area, as well as virtually. We are currently hiring instructors for our office in Carmel Valley.

Our services include individualized tutoring, test preparation, and educational therapy for K-12, college students, and adult learners. We carefully select and train talented, passionate, caring educators to help our students maximize their potential for academic success.

We are a clientele-based business and the amount of hours we can provide depends on your provided availability and teaching proficiencies. We provide hours based on clientele-need. Schedules take time to fill with consistent students, however we always do our best to deliver the amount of hours our instructors are looking for.

Job Description:
We are looking for fun, engaging, and experienced educators to help our students reach their fullest potential in their education! Our Reading Interventionists assist students in working through evidence-based intervention programs that will give them the tools to succeed in all areas of learning. Instructors also provide specialized academic support to build upon students’ strengths and bolster their weaknesses. We work with instructors’ specific competencies to match them with students and develop learning plans, and we also provide training on our reading intervention programs. Our instructors also can branch out and work with our other program offerings (such as our Executive Functioning program) if they want to expand their teaching experience. Someone who can tutor in math as well would be a strong bonus!

Our ideal candidate:

• has experience working with students that have learning challenges, such as ADHD/ADD, Dyslexia, and other Specific Learning Disabilities.
• is familiar with structured literacy and/or fundamental phonological awareness concepts.
• is open to being trained in our programs, particularly our structured literacy (Orton-Gillingham based) programs.

Our current program needs at our Carmel Valley office are as follows:
-Structured Literacy
-Executive Functioning
-Math would be a strong bonus

Preferred Competencies:

• Undergraduate degree in relevant field
• Experience working with phonics, fundamental reading concepts, and/or structured literacy programs
• Minimum of 1 year of tutoring experience with preference for reading support or Special Education services
• Honesty and integrity to earn and maintain trusting relationships and uphold professional ethics
• Confidence and ability to inspire others with your love of learning
• Ability to build rapport with children and effectively collaborate with others
• Ability to maintain a consistent schedule

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
