La Familia is Hiring a Director of Recovery and Wellness Services Near Oakland, CA

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Our Recovery and Wellness Department consists of four distinct programs that provide Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment services through a contract with Contra Costa County Behavioral Health Services Division’s Alcohol and Other Drugs Services (AODS) for Medi-Cal funded SUD Outreach and Navigation; Youth for Change– an adolescent, community and school-based program, and Perinatal Services– a specialty program for women who are pregnant or parenting minor children, and contract with Alameda County Behavioral Health (ACBH), under ACBH’s new Organized Delivery System (ODS) for Medi-Cal funded SUD Treatment. The programs include El Chante Men’s Recovery Home – an 20-bed residential program for adult men; Si Se Puede Latino Family Services Center – an intensive outpatient program for adult men and women; Mujeres con Esperanza/Women with Hope – a specialty program for women who are pregnant or parenting minor children; Youth for Change– an adolescent, school-based program. These programs include managerial and administrative responsibilities and oversight of direct service staff, graduate trainees, and interns.

The Director of Recovery and Wellness Services (RWS) manages all aspects of the RWS Department including supervising programs, and managers, establishing treatment guidelines, coordinating with funders, developing and implementing training and quality assurance processes, completing hiring and disciplinary action as needed, and establishing and facilitating program/department meetings. Coordinating across La Familia programs and departments, maintaining knowledge of regulatory and treatment standards, and ensuring the overall success of the services provided in the Department. This role will uphold and champion the agency’s mission, vision, and values and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work culture.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Department Leadership and Program Standards:

1.Actively network and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance RWS services and agency objectives.
2.Lead and collaborate on special projects related to the success of the Department.
3.Oversee and direct recruitment processes, including using network connections to identify appropriate entities for staff recruitment, develop and update job descriptions and interview questions, and advise leadership staff on final staff selections and onboarding.

Staff Management and Supervision:
1.Provide leadership and supervision to management and supervisory staff, including, but not limited to: Weekly individual supervision meetings with direct report leadership staff.
2.Training and coaching regarding supervisory skills and strategies (e.g., enacting disciplinary action).
3.Regular informal feedback (in addition to organizationally determined formalized feedback processes) ensures that all staff continue developing professionally over time.

4.Provide leadership for direct service and administrative staff in collaboration with management/supervisory staff:Develop, maintain, update, and distribute Program Manuals for each program and Staff Orientation materials.
5.Establish and enforce expectations related to professional, ethical comportment.
6.Develop, edit, and implement training processes and materials for all staff.
7.Support placement of Graduate Trainees within Department programs in collaboration with the Multicultural Psychotherapy Training Institute.
8.Provide backup administrative and clinical supervision on behalf of all program managers.
9.Establish and track performance expectations for all programs and staff members, most notably hours of billable services, documentation standards, and quality clinical interventions.
10.Collaborate to develop, maintain, and verify quality standards for the program in collaboration with La Familia’s Quality Assurance Department.
11.Oversee work product of independent contractors, as appropriate.

Leadership Development:

1.Provide/Facilitate Training for supervisory and managerial staff to develop leadership skills.
2.Facilitate and support supervisors and managers.

Contract Management:

1.Review and understand all elements of program contracts regularly (no less than annually), including performance expectations, staffing levels, reporting, regulatory bodies, policy requirements, and program meetings.
2.Collaborate with La Familia Development and Administrative staff in identifying, pursuing, and fulfilling appropriate funding opportunities for the Department or Agency.
3.Collaborate with La Familia Executive Team and Controller regarding managing the departmental budget(s).
4.Serve as a liaison with all funders on programmatic and operations issues when necessary.

5.Communicate effectively, proactively, and professionally with funder representatives at all levels.

Additional Responsibilities:

1.Complete internal reports as requested by executive and administrative staff members.
2.Attend training, monitor trade publications, and participate in events relevant to key responsibilities.
3.Track and regularly report on key metrics for responsible function areas.
4.As appropriate, lead and/or collaborate on special projects related to agency objectives.
5.Collaborate with MPTI staff for practicum placements.
6.Monitor program activities and deliverables in person at each site across all programs at least once per week.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in social work, psychology, or related field, and licensure with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (LMFT, LCSW, LPCC) or Board of Psychology (Psychologist) for no less than 2 years plus receipt of at least 6 hours of continuing education units about supervision;
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of Substance Use Disorders and their treatment using various evidence-based approaches.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in clinical program management and oversight.
  • Know about the Alameda County Organized Delivery System or similar system(s).
  • Familiarity with Alameda County’s use of Clinician’s Gateway and/or InSYST SmartCare preferred.
  • Familiarity with the CalAIM changes and emerging guidelines about payment and documentation reform.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred, bicultural preferred;
  • Clearly articulate La Familia’s mission and vision to engage multiple audiences.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community members, stakeholders, and staff of all levels of professional development.
  • Non-Profit and Community Based Organization experience highly desirable.
  • Demonstrates and models excellent “customer service” orientation, especially in the ability to interact with people at all levels within and outside the agency.
  • Thinks independently and can make informed decisions when needed.
  • Exercises extreme discretion with the ability to hold, balance and transmit public and confidential information needed by various parties.
  • Proficient using MS Office products, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Acquires or maintains proficiency in using Google Drive products, including Docs, Sheets, and Forms.
