Description

A Painter at La Crosse Sign Group will apply their skills in painting to create, restore and maintain signs used in industrial and commercial settings. This includes preparing surfaces, mixing paints, applying stencils and graphics, painting using different application tools, and ensuring all signs meet specific quality standards.

Work hours are generally during normal production hours 6:00am to 4:00pm Monday-Thursday with variable hours on Fridays, and an average of at least 40 hours a week. There may be small variations in work hours due to special projects, training new and existing staff, and meeting customer deadlines.

What You'll Do

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Prepare surfaces for painting by removing grease, dirt, or rust using abrasives, solvents, and brushes. Smooths and applies primer.
  • Mix and match colors to produce the desired hues and ensure paint adheres properly to surfaces.
  • Apply paint and any decorative/protective coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to obtain a smooth and consistent finish.
  • Manage inventory of supplies such as paints, solvents, brushes, and applicators. Organizes stockroom.
  • Maintains the spray booth and other ancillary paint spraying equipment (spray guns, air compressor, etc.) to prescribed schedule and as needed; this will include changing filters, keeping the walls and floors clean, along with other tasks.
  • Performs quality assurance procedures to ensure La Crosse Sign Group standards are achieved.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives by creating and following process standards, remains flexible to complete tasks collaboratively with team members and offers suggestions for improvement.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of trends in industry and technology to serve as an informational resource to leaders and customers.
  • Completes all paperwork related to the painting process.
  • Trains coworkers and assists in establishing finishing and sanding standards in Fabrication. Will work in and support other production departments as needed.
  • Complies with all safety procedures to minimize health risks and the effect of painting on the work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all fire codes including storage and mixing limits, as well as labels and disposes of any hazardous materials following state and federal regulations.

Qualifications

  • Experience painting, preferably in the automotive or sign industries.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to apply paint on a variety of materials i.e., Aluminum, steel, sheet metal, acrylic, and wood.
  • Paint and bodywork prep skills.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints for special applications.
  • Ability to see color and natural aesthetic instincts.
  • Familiarity with painting tools, mixing and application processes.
  • Time management skills to ensure tasks are completed on schedule while still maintaining quality standards.
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to educate and support peers and team members.
  • Commitment to quality and safety standards.

Physical Requirements:

Will alternate walking, sitting, and standing throughout work shift. Ability to paint in a variety of positions including, but not limited to kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, turning, and climbing. Must be able to climb and stand on a ladder for periods of time. Ability to lift and carry 50pounds at times during the shift. There is regular use of the keyboard and telephone. Requires the ability to receive detailed information through verbal communication. Vision acuity corrected to 20/40; Must pass Ishihara Color Assessment and receive a minimum of average/normal color vision score on Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hues and D-15.

Working Conditions:

Operates in a demanding, fast-paced, people-oriented production environment with routine exposure to dirt, noise, temperature variance, chemicals, and solvents. Works primarily on concrete surfaces and occasionally on ladders. Deadline pressure is an integral part of the job with the potential for managing multiple project assignments. Frequent mental and visual concentration needed for reading/assimilating complex and technical compliance information. Works with a variety of people including vendors, customers, employees, and leadership.
