La Crosse County, Wisconsin is Hiring a Culinary Services Assistant - Part-Time Near Salem, WI

Join La Crosse County's Long-Term Campuses as a Culinary Services Assistant at Lakeview Health Center. As a member of our dietary team, you'll be responsible for serving our diverse resident population with delicious and nutritious meals. What's in it for you?Part-Time = You'll be eligible for a 6.9% match on the Wisconsin Retirement System (a nationwide leader!), paid vacation, paid sick leaveand paid holidays!Location:Lakeview Health Center & Assisted Livingis a state-of-the-art campus in West Salem, WI!Schedule: This position includes six shifts every two weeks! Work every other Saturday and Sunday, 10 AM to 6:30 PM, and shifts during the week on our AM schedule starting at 6:30 AM.
  • Staff participate in a holiday rotation. 
Wage depends on experience!- Up to $18.45/hr and $20.45/hr on weekends with differential.

  • Assists in the preparation of foods.

  • Serves food in a prescribed manner and amounts for dining areas.

  • Scrapes, washes and racks dishes either by mechanical dishwasher or manually.

  • Cleans dining area and dining room as needed.

  • Cleans kitchen and related areas.

  • Assists in work storage areas such as unpacking, storing supplies, etc.

  • Completes trainings and attends mandatory in-service required by the facility.

  • Works safely and follows safety practices and standards of the facility; responsible for reporting or correcting any existing or potential safety or accident hazard.

  • Maintains residents' rights and confidentiality of resident information; reports all suspected cases of resident abuse to the Administrator. 

  • In this public service position, employee is required to be courteous, cooperative and respectful at all times, with the public and clients. Also establishes and maintains a courteous, cooperative and respectful working relationship with other employees, supervisors and public officials.

  • Employee is expected to report to work when scheduled, with minimum use of sick leave, to build up sick leave balance for income protection for unexpected illness.

  • Supports all aspects of person centered care. Respects and acknowledges individuality and uniqueness of residents.

  • Attends in-service education as provided or mandated.
    Physical demands: Stands for long periods of time. Walks to and from kitchen areas. 50% of time is spent pushing, lifting, and pulling. May lift and move vegetables (50 lbs.), cases of #10 cans of food (45-48 lbs.), fruit (20 lbs.), and other items; moves food from shelving area to cart or to can opening area; lifts dish racks; lifts filled food steam table pans weighing up to 20 lbs. Works in dish room areas, which are often hot and humid; works in kitchen, which may be hot; works with hot foods and cooking utensils; works in freezer with frozen food; subject to dramatic and extreme temperature changes. Reads instructions, recipes, resident diet cards, etc.
    RELATED JOB FUNCTIONS

· May be required to: Plan and coordinate the work of others; as necessary; answer phone and take message and fill out necessary paperwork; and check orders and sign invoices as needed.

  • Ability to read menu modifications, resident diet cards and serve food in proper consistency.

  • Ability to perform routine food preparation, and comprehend the necessity of maintaining sanitary cooking and food handling procedures.

  • Ability to prepare food for special menus.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to accept direction and correction.

  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and neatness in appearance and work habits.

  • Ability to work efficiently and avoid waste of time and supplies.

  • Ability to communicate with staff regarding completion of tasks with emphasis on safety.

  • Ability to plan work in order to have food prepared on schedule.

  • Ability to use independent judgment in carrying out assigned duties. 

  • Some experience in food preparation and serving of food on a large-scale is desirable.

  • Must be able to read and write. 

  • Must be 16 years old.

  • Must successfully pass a background check as required by the Wisconsin Caregiver Law.
