What you'll do:

As a School Support Specialist at La Cheim School, Inc., you will play a crucial role in transporting students, assisting with classroom activities, and supporting the academic and behavioral needs of our diverse student population. Your responsibilities include:

• Transporting students to and from school with schedules beginning at 7 a.m. in El Sobrante.
• Transporting families to and from meetings as directed within El Sobrante.
• Assisting the classroom teacher with planning, filing, organizing, and documentation.
• Supporting students with their individual work and in small groups.
• Co-facilitating and supervising physical education and other electives, as well as student social time and meals.
• Supervising students across the school setting, monitoring their actions and interactions.
• Demonstrating knowledge of Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and behavior for each student.
• Encouraging students to achieve academically and meet their behavior goals.
• Assisting with the development of positive behavior interventions and plans for students.
• Serving as a positive role model for the students.
• Supporting team-based interventions in crisis behaviors by following ESS/LCS team-based practices and policies.

Additional Duties:

• Maintaining classroom organization.
• Alerting the Administrator or Coordinator to any maintenance needs, damages, or necessary repairs, including vehicles in El Sobrante or classrooms.
• Conducting conferences between students and staff to enhance student participation.
• Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Maintaining professional behavior in all interactions with students, parents, and staff.
• Participating in all staff meetings and required trainings.
• Ensuring that the Agency vehicle has gas and appropriate fluids at all times in El Sobrante.
• Being flexible and responsive to changes in the scope of duties, as La Cheim continues its development.

What you'll need to succeed:

• An AA Degree or higher is desirable but not required.
• Ability to pass a basic academic skills test.
• Previous experience with youth, particularly under-served populations, or in a school setting.
• Must have a Valid Clear California Driver’s License and obtain DOJ and FBI clearance in addition to providing a clear TB test.
• School Counseling Certification is preferred.
