Job Title: Early Head Start Teacher

Schedule: Monday to Friday (may require weekends/evenings for trainings or events)

Job Location: La Casa de Esperanza Waukesha, WI

Salary Range : EHS-$16.00 - $23.00 based on the candidate's experience and license. ECE-$14.00-20.00 based on the candidate's experience and license.

FLSA: Hourly – Non-exempt

REPORTS TO: Education Coordinator of ECE/EHS Program

BASIC FUNCTIONS: Responsible for all aspects of classroom management ensuring appropriate education, safety, hygiene and communication. Responsible for working with very young children, their families, staff and community partners to provide developmentally appropriate learning environment that follows all the head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing Requirements, and other requirements as appropriate.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Early Head Start teachers enhance children’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development by providing a safe and nurturing educational setting, developing individual goals for children, providing on-going assessment on progress and facilitating transition into preschool. Teaching staff support parents in their role as primary caretakers and educators of their children and encourage their involvement in all aspects of the program.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, schedule and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily program activities at the level of assigned children and each child’s individual needs.
  • Provide care, supervision and protection for assigned children. Maintain a nurturing and safe environment conducive to children’s growth and development.
  • Complete developmental assessments and screening for all assigned children and develop individual goals.
  • Complete and maintain all necessary documentation to demonstrate compliance with EHS performance standards.
  • Implement federal, state and local health and safety policies, procedures and performance standards.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with families and review their needs and progress.
  • Document children’s progress, or lack of progress, and complete all required forms and reports in accordance with federal requirements.
  • Attend and participate in workshops and other meetings to acquire and disseminate information.
  • Communicate with parents through parent conferences, written correspondence, telephone, regarding upcoming events, classroom activities, individual education plan changes, or other relevant information.
  • Assure that cleaning and safety policies are implemented with consistency.
  • Works with Early Head Start Education Coordinator, Disabilities, Mental Health and Nutritionist to complete all required screenings, assessments, and reports in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have at a minimum a CDA or Infant and Toddler Credential. An Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
  • Shall be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to implement positive and anticipatory guidance to children.
  • Must be reliable and flexible to meet the needs of the program.
  • Must be willing to adapt to change and be flexible based on the needs of the program.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse families.
  • Must be willing to participate in ongoing professional development as needed to meet regulation requirements.
  • Shall be physically able to work with young children including lifting them, as needed based on their age and needs.
