La Canada Unified School District is Hiring a Visual, Applied, Performing and Technical Arts Coordinator Near ada, CA

Description of Position: Under supervision of the Superintendent and Cabinet Designee, the VAPTA Coordinator will provide guidance to site and district administration to further coherence for VAPTA programs and curriculum across the District for grades TK-12. The VAPTA Coordinator will work with administrators and instructional staff to develop a consistent, guaranteed and viable curriculum and baseline of instructional standards for elementary specials programs (i.e. music, arts, drama, and computer enrichment programs) designed to foster students’ pursuit of VAPTA electives at the secondary level. The VAPTA Coordinator will work at the secondary level to vertically align and map a sustainable VAPTA program of offerings, serving to articulate a world-class menu of electives and extracurricular experiences that define a state of the arts VAPTA opportunity for 7 - 12 grade students.

Based on Proposition 28 funding, the VAPTA Coordinator will work with teachers and administrators to design, articulate, and collaborate on the arts in education within LCUSD, focusing on but not limited to arts instruction in: media arts, music, theater, visual arts, sculpture, photography, creative expression, design and fabrication, graphic arts and design, computer coding, animation, music composition/ recording/ensembles, script writing, costume design, and film and video production. The selected candidate will be offered a temporary contract for the 2024-25 school year, with the expectation that the associated responsibilities will be completed by the end of 2025-26.

Qualifications:

1. : Valid California teaching credential. Valid C class California driver’s license.

2. : Bachelor’s Degree or higher.

3. : At least two (2) years successful teaching experience in the classroom and at least (1) year successful experience in Visual, Performing, Technical, or Applied Arts. Preferred: Previous experience with professional development training of colleagues and curriculum design.

Work Year: This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE or 100%), Monday through Friday, mid-August through early June (10 months) with 188 contracted workdays. A new teacher orientation day is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, 2024. The first day of paid service is Monday, August 12, 2024. Students are on campus Wednesday, August 14, 2024 through Thursday, June 5, 2025. The last day of the teacher work year is Friday, June 6, 2025.

Salary: Placement on the certificated salary schedule is dependent on education and years of employment in a public school district. No cap on years for public school experience. The starting annual salary range for a fully credentialed teacher is $65,323 to $125,518, which corresponds to $5,938.43 to $11,410.73 per month. Teachers are paid once a month over 11 months, August through June. Position includes mileage and phone stipend.

Benefits: This position is eligible to participate in the District’s medical benefit plans. Currently the District’s maximum contribution to an employee’s benefits package is $19,788 per year. Premiums for a part-time employee are prorated based on the employee’s full-time equivalent (FTE) percentage. The benefits year runs October 1 to September 30. If not already a member, the employee will be enrolled in the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

  • Conducts professional development through multiple modes, including group and individual trainings, as well as creating tutorials.
  • Develops a peer review system for the study of best practices in the classroom.
  • Sets and monitors goals with principals and grade-level teams for instruction and student learning.
  • Attends IPG.
  • Models instructional practices.
  • Problem solves with faculty and staff for modes of engagement, instruction, and assessment related to content areas.
  • Creates and maintains a web-based space to foster collaboration.
  • Develops community outreach programs to educate parents and community about VAPTA best practices and instructional goals and outcomes.
  • Seeks out training and conferences.
  • Reports progress to administration.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE

Licenses, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
  • Valid California teaching credential.
  • At least two (2) years of satisfactory teaching experience.

  • Requires ability to see printed material, computer screen and technological screens and labels.
  • Requires ability to work at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
