Job Summary:

An exceptional opportunity awaits an innovative and strategic Assistant Manager II, within our dynamic Manufacturing organization. Located in Florence, Kentucky, this role is pivotal, offering you the chance to lead the evolution of safety practices at our Manufacturing site, reporting to the Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety.

As a strategic Safety Assistant Manager II, you will spearhead efforts to enhance safety, making a profound impact on our organization's overall performance. Your responsibilities encompass a broad spectrum, including safety leadership, regulatory compliance, safety culture development, incident analysis, and safety program management. Your influence will extend to site leadership, employees, and key leaders and client groups across our organization, necessitating robust collaboration both within the L'Oreal network and the industry at large.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Safety and Health Program Management: Oversee the review and update of all written safety and health programs to ensure they are up-to-date and aligned with regulatory requirements. Management and investigation of incidents.
  • Safety and Health Program Auditing: Conduct comprehensive audits of all safety and health programs to ensure compliance and effectiveness. Implement and conduct training and education actions as needed.
  • Hazardous Condition Control: Take measures to control and eliminate hazardous conditions resulting from human error, equipment, and machine operations that may pose risks to human safety and property.
  • Occupational Hazard Analysis: Assist in the identification, analysis, and control of occupational hazards, applying professional engineering knowledge and skills to mitigate risks.
  • Structural Safety Advising: Provide guidance on structural safety requirements based on failure mode analysis, including factors such as fatigue, stability, stress, and concentration.
  • Protective Equipment Design: Design protective equipment and safety devices for machines to enhance workplace safety.

  • Equipment Redesign: Redesign machines and plant equipment to eliminate occupational hazards. Review proposed safety policies, guidelines, and standards, recommending technical changes to align with engineering principles.
  • Human Factors Integration: Apply knowledge of psychological and physiological factors to support the design of safety features and controls, considering the potential for human errors in machinery and equipment operations.
  • Incident Documentation: Thoroughly document all workplace accidents and near misses, ensuring accurate records are maintained.
  • Plant Audit Preparation: Prepare for plant audits and follow up with corrective actions to address identified deficiencies.
  • Fire Inspection Documentation: Maintain documentation of weekly fire inspections, ensuring compliance with fire safety standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with new safety guidelines and regulations, ensuring the organization remains compliant.
  • Behavioral Based Safety Program: Lead the implementation of a Behavioral Based Safety Program to promote a culture of safety within the organization.


Required Experience/Training/Competencies:

  • Education: bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 3 years of previous experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment withdemonstrated technical expertise in safety standards
  • Auditing Experience: experience supporting audits such as trained for ISO 14001, 45001, and/or 50001, highlighting your commitment to industry-leading standards
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required and ability to learn internal programs.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of OSHA General Industry requirements, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene Principles, and Fire Protection Systems.
  • Certifications: Safety Board Certification (CSP, ASP, etc.) is preferred. ISO 14001, IS0 45001, ISO 50001, and VPP Star experience are preferred.
  • Manipulation Requirements: This position requires constant hand and fine motor manipulations, including handling, reaching, and performing fine motor tasks with hands. It also involves gross motor manipulations related to material handling.

This role requires daily on-site presence supporting 24 hour 7 day week operation with occasional work-from-home flexibility and potential travel to other L’Oréal facilities as needed (up to 15%).
