L.O. Eye Care is seeking a full-time Insurance Specialist in our Grand Ledge, MI location. Interested candidates must work well with others, show leadership qualities, organizational and time management skills, a positive attitude and dependability.
The Insurance Specialist is a key position in the Revenue Cycle, that manages the claims process, including accurate and timely claim creation, follow-up and correspondence with providers, patients, and insurance inquiries/correspondence.
Supervisory responsibilities
This role serves as a lead or mentor for peers or assigned staff. No formal supervisory responsibilities assigned but may be assigned to lead tasks, groups, or projects.
Essential functions
The following list is a summary of the key functions of the job and may not be inclusive of all duties assigned.
  • Enters billing charges via the practice management system and manual entry process. This includes correcting and refiling denied claims.
  • Posts patient and insurance payments manually and electronically.
  • Follows up with assigned payers on rejections, denials, inquiries, status, etc.
  • Responsible for aged accounts receivables for assigned payers.
  • Daily Phone Que rotation to provide customer service by responding to patient inquires.
  • Works cooperatively with management deescalate when receiving patient complaints.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and training
  • Complying with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for collecting payments.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Physical demands/potential hazards
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods, must be able to use eyes, hands, and body to maintain office dexterity and mobility; may be required to lift typical office equipment up to 20 pounds.
Travel required
  • 0-25% travel required.
Education and experience
Educational requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
Previous medical billing experience including knowledge of billing related reporting;
3 - 5 years’ experience in health-care billing
Experience working with medical payers and vision insurance
Working knowledge of medical billing systems, particularly Nextgen
Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 & ICD-10 coding system
Leadership and management experience
Leadership requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity
