This position performs a wide variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor around our hot mix asphalt plant in Cedar Rapids. This is a seasonal position that starts in March and ends in November each year; employee benefits run year-round!

Work Environment:
This position is exposed to all types of outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, dust, and fumes. Laborers work around moving conveyor belts, oversided front end loaders, and dump trucks. The noise level is usually very loud. Personal protective equipment is provided.

Schedule:
There is no set schedule - this position may work on days (Monday to Friday) or overnight (Sunday night to Friday morning), based on production needs. Weekly overtime of 50 hours is common.

Duties:

• Assist in the operation and maintenance of the asphalt plant.
• General laboring such as shoveling, cleaning, and greasing.
• Perform duties as required by the plant supervisor.

Required:

• Regular dependable attendance
• Above average mechanical skills
• Able to use hand and power tools
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
• Able to stand, crouch, and walk for long periods of time (10 hours)
• Able to climb up and down heights of 100 feet
• Regularly lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 50 pounds
• Available to work days and nights including overtime
