Kyowa Kirin North America is Hiring a Research Associate Near La Jolla, CA

Summary:

Kyowa Kirin, Inc., Research Division located in La Jolla, California is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate with demonstrated technical and analytical competence to support the discovery of novel therapeutics for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

Essential Functions:

• Performs laboratory experiments directed at target and drug candidate validation with limited to detailed supervision depending on the complexity of the experiment.
• Required technical skills include:
o Cell Biology: human blood and mouse tissue processing, cell subset isolation, tissue culture, in vitro functional assays, multi-color flow cytometry, and ELISA detection methods
o Molecular Biology: RNA extraction and quantitative RT-PCR
o In vivo: mouse handling, injections / immunizations / bleeds via multiple routes, tissue collection 
• Designs experiments and analyzes routine and complex data produced from cell-based assays and in vivo mouse models with guidance by supervisor and/or other scientists. 
• Demonstrates proficiency in data analysis software such as Excel, Prism, and FlowJo.
• Develops new protocols and troubleshoots existing protocols with limited guidance by supervisor and/or other scientists. 
• Effectively manages multiple diverse tasks at the same time to produce quality results in a consistent and timely manner. 
• Participates in cross-functional teams by performing experiments and occasionally offers technical advice at team / group meetings; Shares technical expertise with other colleagues; trains or provides guidance to other personnel.
• Presents individual research at group and project meetings, accurately records experiments and data in laboratory notebooks, databases, and monthly reports.
• Must be highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, well organized and work effectively as part of a team.

Requirements:

Education
Bachelor's (B.S.) or Master’s (M.S.) degree in biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or equivalent

Experience
RA I: 0-2 years lab experience and/or training post-Bachelor’s degree
RA II: 2-5 years lab experience and/or training post-Bachelor’s degree

Technical Skills
o Cell Biology: human blood and mouse tissue processing, cell subset isolation, tissue culture, in vitro functional assays, multi-color flow cytometry, and ELISA detection methods
o Molecular Biology: RNA extraction and quantitative RT-PCR 
o In vivo: mouse handling, injections / immunizations / bleeds via multiple routes, tissue collection 
Proficient in MS Office Suite; Proficient in data analysis software such as Excel, Prism, and FlowJo.
