Position: Manager of Learning and Development

Reports to: Director of Equipment Operations

Job Description Overview

As the Manager of Learning and Development, you will play a key role in developing and overseeing our Training Team and programs for individuals aspiring to become skilled craftsmen in the construction industry. This position requires a dynamic individual with a strong background in construction trades, education, and program management. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing effective apprenticeship initiatives, ensuring the development of highly skilled and safety-conscious construction professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Program Development:
    • Design, develop, and implement apprenticeship programs that align with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Collaborate with construction trade experts to create a comprehensive curriculum and hands-on training experiences.
  • Recruitment and Selection:
    • Develop and execute strategies for recruiting apprentices, ensuring a diverse and talented pool of candidates.
    • Oversee the selection process, assessing candidates for suitability and potential.
  • Training Coordination:
    • Coordinate and schedule classroom instruction, on-the-job training, and practical experiences.
    • Collaborate with industry professionals and internal trainers to deliver high-quality educational content.
  • Mentorship and Guidance:
    • Establish mentorship programs to connect apprentices with experienced craftsmen.
    • Provide guidance and support to apprentices throughout their training journey.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Emphasize and enforce safety protocols in all training activities.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing apprenticeship programs.
  • Performance Evaluation:
    • Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate apprentice progress and competency.
    • Provide constructive feedback and support for apprentices' professional development.
  • Relationship Management:
    • Cultivate strong relationships with construction industry partners and educational institutions.
    • Collaborate with external organizations to enhance apprenticeship opportunities and resources.
  • Administration:
    • Collaborate with ABC - Northern Ohio and the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) on program requirements.
    • Register team members in NCCER’s Registry and Testing systems.
    • Maintain and track team members’ progress.
    • Administer testing, evaluations, and assessments; and maintain required records.
    • Oversee NCCER instructor, assessor and evaluator training and qualification.
    • Maintain training records to meet NCCER Accredited Assessment Center requirements.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends and apprenticeship best practices to continually improve program offerings.
    • Plan departmental/functional training budget and forecast costs as required by organizational planning and budgeting systems.
  • Learning Management System (LMS) Administration:
    • Oversee the administration and maintenance of the LMS, ensuring accurate tracking of employee training records.
    • Stay abreast of LMS updates and features to optimize its use.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Education, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in construction trades and apprenticeship program management.
  • Strong knowledge of construction industry regulations and safety standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Organizational and project management skills.
