This position is for our Middle College program at Fairmont State University. You will work with youth in the foster care system. Providing them assistance in furthering their education needs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Education:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; degree in social services or related field.

Licensure/Certification:

Valid driver’s license and auto insurance required.

Experience:

Two or more years’ experience working with teens and/or training in a related field.

POSITION SUMMARY

Student Success Specialist (SSS) provide compassionate care to children and adolescents. SSS are responsible for supervising clients at all times to ensure basic needs are being met to improve educational/treatment outcomes. They will assist clients through completions of daily living skills, activities, educational needs and responsibilities by modeling positive behavior and effective problem-solving techniques.


Staff members are expected to work with children and families, community partners and each other using KVC values of Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Open Honest Communication, Teamwork and Continuous Improvement. Additionally, staff members are expected to be a role model for children and families, be solutions focused and build upon their strengths. KVC policies employees are also expected to maintain knowledge of and adhere to all company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned according to qualification of staff and development of programs.

The Student Success Specialist will:

  • Practice conduct that displays respect for all KVC colleagues, and community stakeholders regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion, or ethnicity.
  • Respect all youth and treat them as individuals in accordance with their treatment plan and collaborate with all team members providing the best possible care.
  • Be a role model for the children and families in our care, remain professional, respectful, and calm always.
  • Complete required documentation per agency policy.
  • Provide direction on youth behavior needs.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must complete timesheets daily, including clocking in and out for lunch periods and breaks.
  • Student Support Specialist will provide crisis care and direct services, (ASO) as needed.
  • Provide and lead youth group activities to build social skills, life skills as well as academic skills.
  • Create and engage recreational activities that are youth centered.
  • Be a member of the youth’s treatment team and provide feedback on progress as needed.
  • Provide Supervision of all youth living in the Residence Hall. Report any issues or concerns to the Resident Coordinator.
  • Coordinate with youth treatment regarding academic needs of youth.
  • Assist in youth academic achievement in middle college and higher education.
  • Provide tutoring and study groups as needed for youth.
  • Utilize foster care case management components to ensure youth wellbeing needs are addressed.
  • Travel and transport youth (possibly to multiple in-service area) and work with youth in a variety of settings that may include home, school, and community.
  • Assume “on-call” responsibility for all area residence halls on a scheduled basis.
  • Required to administer medication as needed by youth.
  • Provide planning crisis-care and direct services to Student Support Workers
  • Have knowledge of de-escalation techniques (MANDT) and receive training in CPR/First Aid.
  • Work with all community members involved in the child’s life including paid and unpaid supports for the youth.
  • Have a good working relationship with the College Professionals and others.
  • Will respond to crisis situations in the residence halls 24 hours a day when they are in the hall/on duty.
  • Will serve as a resource, referral, and communications agent, which may include distributing paperwork, flyers, and brochures.
  • Ensure services follow all regulatory standards and contract terms and conditions.
  • Ensure safety and supervision of youth in care.
  • Assume “on-call” responsibility for all area residence halls on a scheduled basis.
  • Enforce the rules and regulations of University Housing. SSS should know and support University and/or residence house rules. Will document all violations and participate as required in the conduct system.
  • Will attend regular departmental meetings.
  • Ensure compliance of staff with established Residence Life policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Resident Coordinator on reporting any problems or concerns through conducting apartment checks, reporting, and following up on housekeeping, maintenance and move requests.
  • Complete all required paperwork including monthly journal, or log of regular communication with youth and follow agency policies and procedures within timelines, to ensure smooth paperwork flow.
  • Acquires and develops resources to meet identified needs of youth as needed.
  • Provide positive feedback to youth and staff.
  • Provide culturally relevant and sensitive services to youth.
  • Work with Student Support Workers (direct or indirect) through providing documentation and communication as needed.
  • Have a good working relationship with the Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Observe children/youth for signs of abuse and/or neglect and report as needed to the child abuse hotline.
  • Attend meetings, seminars, and other educational functions as identified.

Complete KVC required trainings under ADP Learning and annual courses according to agency schedule.
