Kupono Government Services is Hiring a Power Plant Operator Near Kekaha, HI

The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a Power Plant Operator to support our government customer located in Kaua'i, Hawai'i.

Under general direction of a supervisor or lead-person, will perform a variety of work related to the operation and maintenance of diesel power generation engines and equipment at the Barking Sands, Kokee, Makaha Ridge, and Niihau sites.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The individual will perform a variety of duties related to the operation and maintenance of diesel power generation engines and equipment, such as:

  • Operate diagnostic and other test equipment related to general maintenance and repair; research and identify parts from catalogs; perform maintenance, repair, overhaul and replacement of parts related to the operation of generators and equipment.
  • Knowledgeable in operating principles of diesel-powered equipment and medium voltage switchgear.
  • Will perform fundamental tasks such as preventative maintenance of power generation engines and equipment, cleaning and painting of equipment and generator rooms.
  • Responsible for care of Government equipment, tools, property, and materials, and assure that they are properly maintained and safeguarded.
  • Performs specific tasks in accordance with verbal and/or written instructions and observes safety, fire, health, and work rules.
  • Prepare/maintains reports and records related to the work assignments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Environment will include outdoor and indoor environment, extended workdays, an office laboratory environment with field assignments, sometimes in inclement weather. Must be able to withstand heat (weather) and work odd hours in support of PMRF operations while occasionally traveling to remote sites on neighbor islands via military helicopters.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • High School or equivalent. (Must have completed trade school training, correspondence school, or have a minimum of four (4) years apprenticeship or equivalent work experience.)
  • Associate's Degree
  • Bachelor's Degree or combination of years education and years of experience.
  • Diesel mechanics license and State of Hawaii Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred. (Equivalent training and course work may be substituted in the absence of license.)

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of three (3) years specific work experience in the specified field required.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Secret security clearance is required. (Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.)
