BASIC PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
The Industrial Engineer will serve as the onsite Lean warehouse expert for all aspects of parts operations for the North American Distribution Center, and assist all Divisional Distribution Centers with parts processes, layouts and storage. This individual will act as the change agent for the facility and drive all facility improvement projects.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES : This position does the following in accordance with all applicable Federal, State and local laws / regulations and the Company's policies, procedures and guidelines:
  • Serves as the parts subject matter expert for all processes in warehouse facilities.
  • Analyzes work and document processes using industrial engineering techniques, i.e. process flow charts, mapping, and predetermined time standards to develop process cycle time.
  • Prepares regular parts distribution center slotting recommendations driving reduction in non-value added time through velocity item slotting, maintenance of put-away locations and storage groups.
  • Assist Kaizen storage teams in relocating high velocity product to most productive areas of warehouse, and maintaining outbound volume balance across storage areas to reduce potential picking bottlenecks, and maintain appropriate space utilization of all reserve areas.
  • Formulates parts work measurement productivity standards through traditional time-motion studies, and standardizes operating procedures.
  • Devises and implements control systems to collect and analyze data, establishes standards for performance and develops tools for measuring performance to control deviation from standards.
  • Leads employees and facilitates 6S training/implementation, Kaizen events, suggestion programs, and other improvement practices to continuously improve warehouse operations.
  • Responsible for the application of approved industrial engineering principles and practices to improve operating performance, reduce waste and delays, and otherwise promote cost reductions and a high level of efficiency.
  • Specifically responsible for parts data management, regularly utilizing relational databases (MS Access, Sequel, etc.) to manage and maintain large quantities of data, analyzing performance, identifying problems, and developing recommendations that support productivity management.
  • Assist in the planning of preventive maintenance procedures and practices.
  • Defines parts operational problems and opportunities in quantitative terms. Gathers and analyzes data to evaluate alternate courses of action to improve warehouse processes.
  • Facility point of contact for all IT projects and responsible for training of employees affected by IT enhancements.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field required.
  • At least 3 years' experience working in a high-volume distribution center.
  • At least 3 years' experience of Lean Six Sigma or TPS preferred.
  • Six Sigma Certification Blackbelt preferred.
  • Project Management experience, certification preferred
  • Computer skills required, to include Microsoft office experience and warehouse management systems experience (EWM, MS Project, Visio).
  • SAP Experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
