ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION:

  • For Employees who reside in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and California, additional compensation is offered through a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA).

POSITION SUMMARY:

The individual in this position will provide technical leadership and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the network, systems administration and help desk functions. Responsible for ensuring effective and appropriate support and maintenance of endpoint devices, LAN, WAN, server infrastructure and applications, network performance and security, backup and disaster recovery solutions, and other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.

JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  1. Oversee day to day operation of systems administration, network infrastructure, and help desk functions. Responsible for the supervision of assigned staff including hiring, training, mentoring, assigning work, evaluating and correcting job performance and disciplining as needed. (Daily)
  2. Establish a proactive customer service-oriented team atmosphere, encouraging staff to participate in development and improvement of their own skills as well as the facilitating the development of technology skills for all SSI employees. (daily)
  3. Responsible for working with internal customers, end users, IT staff and senior management to analyze and implement solutions which achieve a balance between cost considerations and business requirements while maintaining consistency with the overall technical architecture and IT strategic plan. (weekly)
  4. Design, manage, administer and support the entire network environment (LAN/WAN). Troubleshoot and resolve complicated communication/network issues as they arise. (Daily)
  5. Plan and manage maintenance, upgrades, implementations and projects related to network/infrastructure, servers, LAN/WAN, security, and user technology equipment. (as needed)
  6. Analyze new and existing technology solutions and prepare prioritized recommendations for maintenance and improvement including prioritized budget recommendations and ROI where applicable. (Weekly)
  7. Ensure proper maintenance of all server systems and end-user computing devices and their related hardware/operating system/security/software. (daily)
  8. User support for PC applications - including but not limited to: Microsoft OS, Microsoft Office Suite/Office365, SharePoint, mobile and any other associated software applications. (Daily)
  9. Ensure the validity and integrity of data on computer systems - through a complete understanding of the backup system. Ensure appropriate maintenance of backup and compliance with all regulations. (Weekly)
  10. Develop, maintain and test business continuity and disaster recovery plans and solutions. (as needed)
  11. Understand and support network protocols and infrastructure - thorough understanding of how the network works. Documentation of the network and related systems. (Daily)
  12. Ensure compliance with all company policies including but not limited to the Shimadzu Corporate Global Information Security Policy. Work with Cyber Security personnel to ensure compliance with all security needs and protection of environment, systems and data. (daily)
  13. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, vendors, contractors and auditors. (daily)
  14. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally and effectively to individuals in any facet or level of the organization. (daily)
  15. Procure, provision, and maintain appropriate licensing to support the organization's technologies ensuring compliance with organizational and manufacture licensing requirements. (as needed)
  16. Coordinate with IT Management to formulate budgetary plans and ensure maintenance of all equipment and software. (semi-annually)

PROBLEM SOLVING REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent is required to compare many courses of action in resolving problems and insuring the validity of data on all computer systems company wide. Uppermost in these considerations will be the expected benefit to the company and its employees within stated limits. Must identify and resolve problems or develop alternative solutions in a timely manner.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent is required to have a bachelor's degree in computer science/information technology or related field, coupled with seven or more years of experience in network/systems design/management or equivalent aggregate experience. Verifiable competency in specific areas including network and systems management is also required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for the daily direction and supervision of multiple information technology departmental employees.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The position requires frequent lifting (or by other means for movement) of boxes and computer components/parts. Physical demands may include frequent bending; stooping, squatting, standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time and pulling/pushing of parts can also be expected. Incumbent must be able to lift up to 20 pounds routinely throughout the day. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

SAFETY/PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

Position is required to maintain proper housekeeping and safety standards. Proper use of personal protective equipment and safety devices as required by the Corporate Safety Document policies and procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is based in an office area that requires regular and predictable attendance. It will involve working alone on projects and collaborating as part of team. Incumbent may work at different workstations during the day and travel to regional locations in order to support the information technology needs of all company employees. Extra hours may periodically be required, in order to fulfill the functions required by this position. The position will include contact with all SSI employees and requires prompt and friendly handling of all related inquires.
