KROGER.COM - Westgate is Hiring a Meat Department Manager #3433 Near Staunton, VA

Position Summary:

Achieve sales/profit goals, control all established quality assurance standards, and monitor all tasks, duties and activities for the department. Essential Job Functions:
  • Promote trust and respect among associates, with a positive attitude.
  • Communicate company, department, and job-specific information to associates.
  • Establish performance goals for the department and empower associates to meet or exceed targets by developing and implementing a department business plan to achieve desired results.
  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume.
  • Train and develop associates on the performance of their jobs and participate in the performance appraisal process.
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, company guidelines, food safety regulations, familiarity and compliance with all country-of-origin labeling and regulations.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated, to be able to respond to questions, make suggestions and locate products throughout the department/store, and offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
  • Cut meats to customers’ requests using proper cutting equipment.
  • Provide customers with fresh/frozen products they ordered and the correct portion size (or as close as possible to the amount ordered) to prevent shrinkage.
  • Execute sales promotions in partnership with store management, implement department period promotional plan, inform and educate department associates about current, upcoming and in-store promotions, prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor.
  • Assist store management in preparing store/department budget, expense control, profit/loss reviews, and take appropriate action on all financial reports.
  • Schedule daily, weekly and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs. 
  • Plan/organize inventory process, maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions, note any discrepancies, train department associates on inventory, stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering.
  • Prepare foods according to food temperature logs and cooking instructions, ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures, practicing preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment, identifying unsafe conditions, notifying store management of items in need of repair and of customer or employee accidents.
  • Reporting all safety risks, or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft or fraud.

Minimum Position Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 or older

  • Knowledge of basic math
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Current food handlers permit once employed
  • Possess adequate knife handling skills and speed

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Management experience
  • Knowledge of cutting, wrapping, labeling
  • Retail/Meat experience
  • Second language (speaking, reading and/or writing)
