Job Summary:

Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit is growing! A well-established and leading law firm is seeking a Paralegal to join our Landlord-Tenant department. The ideal candidate will prepare 5- and 10-Day Notices, Summons, Complaints, and court documents for Landlord-Tenant Eviction matters. The Paralegal will handle inquiries from landlords and tenants related to their tasks. The business hours for this non-exempt position are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Responsible for receiving new landlord-tenant eviction matters and opening new files.

· Obtain leases and ledgers from clients.

· Prepare 5-Day and 10-Day notices, arrange for service, follow up with client when notice expires.

· Prepare Summons and Complaints and general correspondence

· Prepare affidavits for military service, attorneys’ fees, and costs.

· E-file Complaint and other documents in various counties.

· Place service with Sheriff, track service and affidavits of service.

· Set up first court date.

· Open and close new matters and save/profile documents.

· Process payments and track payment plans.

· Field inquiries and respond to clients and tenants.

· Place evictions with Sheriff and notify clients.

· Work with other firm attorneys as needed.

· Perform various administrative duties including notation, billing, docketing, scanning, and profiling documents to document management system.

Qualifications

· A 4-year degree required with paralegal certificate

· 2-3 years of relative Landlord-Tenant experience preferred

· Previous law firm experience preferred

Competencies:

· Proficient computer skills with a high comfort level with Microsoft Office

· Ability to learn specialized software of the firm

· Accurate typing skills with an above average typing speed

· Strong organizational and prioritization skills; attention to detail

· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

· Excels at working in a team environment

· Ability to multi-task, work efficiently and quickly without sacrificing quality.
