Emergency Department Technician

Position Summary:

Emergency Department Technicians assist providers in the Emergency Department with patient care. Collects samples for lab analysis, gathers and documents patient information, monitors EKGs and heart rhythms, treats wounds, and assists doctors and nurses during procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists patients in dressing or undressing as well as lifting and positioning patients for procedures
  • Assists with transporting patients as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Completes mandatory training requirements
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Emergency Medical training from an approved institution or training program, OR Paramedic training from an approved institution or training program, OR current Idaho CNA certification and active enrollment in Certified Patient Care Technician certification required; if enrolled, CPT certification to be completed within 3 months of hire
  • 1 year of Phlebotomy or related medical training and experience in a clinical, hospital, or laboratory setting preferred
  • Knowledge of spelling and medical terminology preferred
  • BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS during General Orientation

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 lbs
  • Must be able to maintain a sitting position
  • Must be able to maintain a standing position
  • Must be able to stoop or crouch
  • Typical equipment used in a clinical job
