Koinonia is Hiring a Resource Family Specialist Near Rocklin, CA

Koinonia Family Services is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Resource Family Specialist in its Koinonia Connections Emergency Placement Program in Rocklin, CA. The program serves youth 6 to 17 years old who have been placed due to trauma and challenging behaviors. The program is operated from an attractive residential home in the countryside near Sierra College (near I-80 and Rocklin Road). The Resource Family Specialist serves as the resource parent for the facility (home)--providing a safe, nurturing and accepting environment for youth. Additionally, they oversee a team of dedicated direct care staff, ensuring round-the-clock care and supervision for the youth. This position is supported by a full-time assistant who helps with the day-to-day operations of the program and facility, such as shopping for supplies, managing the facility, and running errands. The Resource Family Specialist is also supported by a qualified Master’s level social worker and a committed management team. This program is similar to an agency-operated intensive services foster home with a supervising professional foster parent and team of direct care staff.

As the Resource Family Specialist, your role is pivotal in shaping the program's success. You play a key role in establishing a structured and nurturing environment for our youth. This includes overseeing their morning routines, ensuring they attend school or participate in educational activities, and guiding them through their daily schedules. The work schedule includes being present in the home from morning to early evening, Monday through Friday, and then occasional evening and weekend time interacting with youth in your capacity as a resource parent. The facility includes a master bedroom designated for your use, allowing you to be onsite and available to support both youth and staff. Overnight stays are welcomed when aligned with the goals of the program.

  • Competitive Compensation: Annual compensation in the range of $80,000 to $90,000, or even higher depending on the number of youth placed in the facility. Guaranteed annual base salary of $66,560 plus additional income per youth placed per month.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the Resource Family Approval (RFA) resource parent for the facility (home), providing a safe and nurturing environment for youth.
  • Create a safe, secure and nurturing environment for youth who have experienced trauma to foster a sense of acceptance and belonging.
  • Direct the daily operations of the facility, ensuring a high level of quality care for youth.
  • Schedule and supervise the staffing of youth counselors, providing training and oversight to ensure proper care and supervision of clients.
  • Maintain the facility, grounds, vehicle, and budgets, including weekly facility food and clothing budgets, with the assistance of a full-time staff person who handles those duties.
  • Work collaboratively with social workers on client treatment plans, ensuring their proper implementation.
  • Respond to emergencies, maintaining positive public relations with the community, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science-related field or equivalent experience, plus two years of supervisory experience in children's services or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to be approved as a RFA resource parent. 
  • Two years of supervisory experience preferred, including the ability to mentor, guide, and motivate a team of direct care staff.
  • Strong relational skills with the ability to build strong relationships with youth, staff and others.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and the ability to provide support and guidance in urgent or complex cases.
  • Ability to handle administrative tasks such as record-keeping, compliance, and reporting.
  • A strong understanding of and commitment to cultural competency, ensuring inclusive and sensitive care.
  • Required certifications include a valid driver's license, proof of personal automobile insurance, and the ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • A high level of integrity and commitment to ethical practices.
  • Knowledge of Community Care Licensing regulations and standards, with at least two years in a supervisory role.
