The candidate should have recent architectural design and implementation experience in one or more of the following project types; luxury hospitality, commercial, or residential architecture with an emphasis on both architecture and interior planning and detailing of high-end, custom environments.

The Sr. Staff Architect assumes responsibility for meeting deadlines and customer expectations for assigned projects and is responsible for developing architectural design solutions and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams on building construction and renovation projects. Responsibilities include architectural design, feasibility studies, code compliance, preparation of visual communication drawings, renderings of exterior and interior architectural elements, construction drawings and specifications, construction observation and quality control. For select projects, the Sr. Staff Architect may manage third-party architecture and engineering consultants, contractors, and vendors though all project delivery phases including design, documentation and specification, permitting, construction and project close-out.

A key contributor and team member, The Sr. Staff Architect works closely with Kohler business leaders, Construction Project Management, Facilities Engineering and Maintenance, Landscape Design, and other key project stakeholders to plan, coordinate, manage, and execute projects. This position serves as a project liaison between Kohler businesses and the internal Architecture and Interior Design studio and will communicate regularly in-person and via written communication with key stakeholders, internal customers, team members and vendor partners. This role requires the ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service, teamwork, transparency, and attention to detail to ensure client satisfaction.

  • In collaboration with the Director of A&ID, develop architectural direction and oversee production of detailed bid packages, including finalized drawings and specifications for large or complex projects.
  • Coordinate plan review submissions in order to obtain approvals from state and local authorities on small projects.
  • Secure quotes and other supporting documents for review for compliance as exhibits for capital expenditure approval documents.
  • Participate in job-site coordination meetings and design team meetings.
  • Review and approve submittals and respond to RFI’s for small to mid-size projects
  • Monitor construction for compliance with contract documents and to insure quality.
  • Provide or coordinate “As-Built" drawings, specifications and other essential close-out documents.

Your Strengths

  • Design-led and seasoned creative and technical professional with refined taste and extensive experience in custom commercial and residential architecture.
  • Curious about learning and constant improvement through research and exploration.
  • Appreciative of the value of historic/classic architecture while striving to complement it with new ideas and approaches; striking the perfect balance of heritage and today’s customer wants and needs.
  • Ability to establish credibility with executive and business leaders and establish/translate architecturalbriefs in a compelling and inspiring way.
  • Driven to execute a unique vision for iconic properties rather than work to a defined set of standards.
  • Problem-solver, demonstrating a high level of abstract reasoning and a strong creative design sense.
  • Self-driven and directed, always pressing forward while functioning in a collaborative team environment.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, committed to relentless follow-up and quality assurance.
  • Flexible and open to change or uncertainty with an ability to embrace exploration of multiple solutions as an integral part of the process.
  • Collaborative and enjoy working with diverse teams from a variety of backgrounds and points of view
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy multi-tasking on projects ranging in size.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and willingness to step outside of defined responsibilities to support the team
  • Demonstrate a high level of abstract reasoning, problem solving and strong creative ability.
  • Directs and leads technical aspects of all architectural and interiors projects.
