Your Job
We need a Data Detective! Do you enjoy using data to tell a story and drive action? Are you someone who finds fulfillment when you have surfaced significant indicators that help others solve large and complex problems? If so, this opportunity might be just what you're looking for! Georgia-Pacific's Process Optimization Group is growing our Automation Monitoring team by adding an Automation Engineer to help our site partners make data-driven decisions regarding their Autonomous Vehicles and automated systems. We accomplish this through fault and mission data analysis to help the site understand the largest contributors to downtime and provide guidance toward resolution. As part of the root-cause analysis (RCA) process, we advise on how to address, mitigate, and resolve problems to enhance those systems' operational capability and catalog the correction for future reference. In addition, you will help define, outline, and test new tools and features to further advance Georgia-Pacific's data-monitoring capabilities for our automated assets.
Further, you will be a part of a large, centralized team supporting our automated assets across the U.S. You will leverage data from numerous facilities to help prioritize work for corporate, site, and OEM resources. You will also take part in identifying engineering solutions to new and chronic issues, all to optimize Georgia-Pacific's manufacturing and logistics.
Our Team
As a member of the team, the Automation Engineer will partner with Georgia-Pacific (GP) operations that have automated guided vehicles (AGVs) through in-depth data analysis, remote monitoring of the automated systems health metrics, and proactively addressing issues/opportunities within those fleets across multiple businesses. Our team members partner heavily with our Automation Platform Leaders, Learning & Development Leaders, Operational Health Leaders, Automation Platform Technicians, and Automation Systems and Network Support partners to improve the reliability and sustainability of the GP AGV Fleets.
This role will report to the Automation Monitoring Leader and be based in the Technology Solutions Group Automation Lab in Atlanta, GA .

  • Ensure site resources are leveraging their time towards the highest value-add opportunities.
  • Enhance our Platform team's ability to focus on larger-scale issues across fleet systems.
  • From our Automation lab in Atlanta, remotely monitor AGV fleets in real-time using tools such as Pi Vision, Tableau, and AGV Manager software systems.
  • Use internal and external knowledge resources and diagnostic tools to troubleshoot reported issues.
  • Defining opportunities to improve on remote monitoring techniques.
  • Knowledge sharing with the Platform team on opportunities/trends across fleets

  • Experience analyzing data to identify potential issues and creating a plan of action based on that analysis.
  • Able to be on rotating on-call/after-hours shifts for non-business hours to address escalated issues. Shifts will be assigned a week at a time, estimated to be one week every 6 weeks.
  • Able to travel at least 30% within the domestic United States
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering
