Environmental Health Specialist/Environmental Health Practitioner

Knox County is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Environmental Health Specialist or Environmental Health Practitioner.

Salary:

Environmental Health Specialist: $25.93 per hour

Environmental Health Practitioner (LEHP): $28.52 per hour

Responsibilities:

• Conduct inspections and enforce Knox County ordinances across various environmental health programs, including food, water, onsite wastewater, tanning, body art, vector control, lead, and more.
• Survey and review plans of food service establishments, ensuring compliance with regulations.
• Participate in epidemiological investigations related to foodborne and waterborne illnesses.
• Provide education and guidance on environmental health practices and regulations.
• Evaluate and inspect water wells, private sewage disposal systems, and registered sewage pumper trucks.
• Collaborate with homeowners in sealing abandoned wells.
• Regularly report on completed work, ongoing projects, and suggest corrective measures.
• Serve as a resource for environmental health inquiries and provide written communication regarding regulations.
• Collect and present information at administrative and court hearings.
• Collect samples for laboratory analysis, interpret results, and maintain accurate records.
• Assist in training new employees as directed.
• Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in communication.
• Contribute to team and department performance management activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in physical or biological sciences (minimum 30 semester hours/45 quarter hours).
• Must apply for Environmental Health Practitioner Training license within 6 months of hire.
• Must obtain and maintain Environmental Health Practitioner licensure within 3 years of hire.
