Control Room Operator/Stationary Engineer

SUMMARY

The Stationary Engineer operates and maintains boilers, chillers, pumps, turbines, air compressors and mechanical equipment which provide utilities for buildings or industrial processes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for operation of all site utility equipment to include but not limited to steam boilers, turbines, generators, motors, chillers, air compressors.
  2. Responsible for logging data, such as temperature, pressure, hours of operation, fuel consumed, temperature or pressure, water levels, analysis of flue gases
  3. Responsible for monitoring, logging and correcting alarming conditions or out of specification readings
  4. Make sure that all the equipment that he is in charge is maintained on a regular basis
  5. Adjust controls and valves on equipment to provide power and regulate and set operations of system and industrial processes
  6. Services, repairs, adjusts, and tests machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily based on mechanical not electronic principles
  7. Uses either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes, not including computers or vehicles
  8. Oil and lubricate equipment
  9. Perform chemical analysis and take corrective actions to maintains specifications
  10. Responsible for periodic inspections of equipment and minor repairs to such equipment; perform preventive maintenance and maintain records of repairs
  11. Operate control consoles in control rooms; prepare requisitions for materials and spare parts; instruct and train subordinates and other personnel; read meters, gauges, and other recording devices and log the data; keep records and write reports; as directed
  12. Maintain cleanliness of workstation and areas of control
  13. Assist the Maintenance Department and performs other duties as needed
  14. Reading dials, gauges, and manuals.
  15. Communicate condition of equipment and status of jobs to supervision, operations and outside service representatives. 
  16. Complete all necessary documentation as described under company guidelines. Must comply with all company safety rules and policies

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Other duties as requested or assigned my management

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  1. High school graduate or GED
  2. Mechanical skills
  3. Boiler operator license, or able to obtain
  4. Experience with SCADA/DCS controls
  5. Organization and planning
  6. Customer service skills
  7. Attention to detail
  8. Physical ability to perform non-technical job requirements, constant walking, the ability to lift and pull
  9. Communication skills (verbal, written) and to gather feedback and get clarity on miscellaneous job duties. Prompt attention to sending and responding to email messages
  10. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is occasionally required to lift, carry (up to 45 pounds), stoop, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, push, pull or perform other physical activities
