The Engine Division of Kawasaki Motors Corp, headquartered in Grand Rapids, MI has an immediate opening for a Regulatory Compliance Manager based in Grand Rapids, MI.

As a Regulatory Compliance Manager, you are responsible to lead Kawasaki’s regulatory compliance activities ensuring that Kawasaki and its product’s comply with all requirements while identifying new technologies and future improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Assumes the leadership role of the Regulatory Compliance function, which includes coaching and development of direct reports, completing performance reviews and applying rewards or corrective actions.
  • Identifies ways to maintain a strong understanding of applicable U.S. and international laws and regulations affecting certification and compliance of Kawasaki engine/consumer products.
  • Able to anticipate compliance challenges, create a solution and gain support from international leadership.
  • Identify training and growth opportunities for the regulatory compliance department.
  • Represents Kawasaki’s Engine Division’s interests at all levels of government rulemaking.
  • Manages the pre-sale approval and certification programs to ensure that Kawasaki will be permitted to market its products.
  • Acts as the subject matter expert in the field of regulatory compliance.
  • Completes transmittal of necessary information regarding product compliance or emission regulations to international engineering staff to facilitate advanced planning.
  • Prepares appropriate responses, under the direction of international stakeholders, to proposed regulations.
  • Participates in the standards development process, under the direction of international leadership, with standards development organizations such as Society of Automotive Engineers, American National Standards Institute, International Standards Organization, and Underwriters Laboratories.
  • Leads technical committee activities within the following organizations: Outdoor Power Equipment Institute, Society of Automotive Engineers and EMA. Travels off-site and represents and speaks on Kawasaki’s behalf.
  • Commonly interacts & creates relationships with other department stakeholders within Kawasaki. 
  • Coordinates testing of company products with government agencies and independent test laboratories.
  • Educates stakeholders within Kawasaki on regulatory compliance goals, both short term and long term.
  • Reviews and interprets compliance standards and regulations and communications findings throughout multiple divisions of Kawasaki.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Engineering or Business required.
  • 10 years’ experience in dealing with government agencies.
  • 5 years' experience leading a team.
  • Understanding of gasoline engine operation and emissions.
  • Proficient with project management duties.
  • A passion for developing and leading a team.
  • Competent in navigating compliance requirements within the product development process.
  • Able to track multiple projects and due dates.
  • Comfortable traveling independently.

Travel: 30%
