Job Summary/Objective

Field Survey Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision of field crews and the coordination of field survey work. Receives broad assignments and verbal instructions, usually with little or no daily supervision. Responsibilities include the scheduling of field work and crew assignments, the repair and maintenance of survey vehicles and equipment, fieldwork budgets. Position requires working contact with clients, contractors, field inspection personnel and office engineering and planning staff. Have drafting abilities to process survey information and prepare legal descriptions.

  • Perform a variety of in-office and field tasks associated with land surveying, and civil engineering projects obtained by the company. 
  • Consult with clients.
  • Prepare proposals and contracts.
  • Provide guidance and direction to field crew(s).
  • Provide guidance and direction to engineering and surveying technicians.
  • Oversee survey aspects of civil engineering projects.
  • Oversee and/or directing preparation of all types of survey plans.
  • Prepare flood elevation certificates.
  • Deed and plan research and review.
  • Fieldwork associated with land surveying, engineering, and construction projects.
  • Survey computations and data collection.
  • Computer-aided design and drafting.
  • Member of Professional Surveyor Organization.
  • Works closely with Engineering Manager.
  • Ability to take direction and express understanding of the directions received.
  • Ability to report progress and maintain schedules. 
  • Ability to express ideas to technicians, designers, and engineers.
  • Ability to provide direction to others.
  • CSM activities for specifically targeted clients.

Supervisory responsibilities

  • Oversee Crew chiefs; assigns crews to projects.

Work Environment

  • Mix of field (outdoor) and office setting (indoor) depending on the nature of the work being performed.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs., 

Travel Required

  • Travel is required for this position.

Required Education and Experience

Requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity.

  • Associates Degree or equivalent PLUS minimum 8 years previous related experience performing design project surveys, locating section corners, topographic surveys, boundary surveying, and construction staking
  • Registered Land Surveyor or approval of Senior Manager
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured 
  • Proficient with GPS and Total Station survey equipment

Preferred Education and Experience

Preferences that are job-related and consistent with business necessity.

  • CADD experience desirable
