KIPP currently serves over 120,000 students in 270 schools across the country, including Indianapolis. KIPP Indy Public Schools (KIPP Indy) was founded in 2004 with one class of fifth grade students and has grown to serve 1,300 students across three schools. Of the students that attend KIPP Indy, 94% qualify for free and reduced lunch, 95% are African American or LatinX, 19% receive special education services, and 12% are designated as Emerging Bilinguals. As we continue to grow, our mission remains the same: to create joyful, academically excellent schools in which teachers, students, and families are all united around the same goal of preparing students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose —college, career, and beyond— so they can lead fulfilling lives and create a more just world.Job DescriptionWe are looking for a highly dedicated high school science educator who has a track record of instructional excellence and who is willing to continuously go above and beyond for students. KIPP Indy teachers are responsible for delivering effective, rigorous instruction in their content areas that produce high-quality results and student understanding.RESPONSIBILITIESDemonstrate a strong understanding of student learning and effective teaching strategiesRegularly tracking student dataMaintain an organized and focused learning environmentUtilize state standards to develop curriculum and lesson plans based on these standardsImplement student management policies within classrooms and everywhere on campusCreate and foster a positive learning environmentEstablish and maintain strong communication lines with all familiesAttend school-wide events, such as open houses, family conferences, and other events involving familiesConsistently use assessment and data to set goals, inform decisions, and invest students in their progressPerform all duties related to your classroom including clerical duties relating to textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, etc.Prioritize instructional practices that enable real-time feedback to studentsUse formative assessment data to inform both short and long-term instructional decisions that promote all students’ academic performanceEmbrace and incorporate feedback in the spirit of constant improvementPartner with applicable stakeholders to appropriately scaffold for all learners (Multilingual Learners, Diverse Learners)COMPETENCIESBelieves deeply that all students can learn and deserve a high-quality educationPlans carefully to meet both short- and long-term goals and holds themselves accountable to meeting goalsUses data to solve problemsDevelops strong relationshipsPerseveres through challenges and is adaptable to changeUnderstands their own strengths and weaknesses and seeks ways to always improveCommunicates across lines of differences and proactively creates inclusive environmentsQualificationsValid Indiana teaching license or in the process of applying for reciprocity with a valid out-of-state licenseBachelor’s degree (required)Minimum of 2-5 years teaching in an urban public school (preferred)Experience teaching in a public high school setting (preferred)Strong record of helping students from underserved neighborhoods achieve academic successExperience in analyzing student data and using data to inform instructionUnquestioned integrity and commitment to the KIPP Indy mission and communityPossess a strong knowledge of the content area and have met all required educator standards for their contentPass a criminal background check, as required by lawAdditional InformationSalary is commensurate with experience and includes a highly competitive benefits package.
