POSITION OVERVIEW 

In August 2025, KIPP Capital Region is launching an expanded high school in a new facility that will grow to accommodate 800 students by the 2028-2029 school year. As we prepare for high school expansion, KIPP Capital Region is working to engage all community stakeholders, including current HS staff, students, families, the larger KIPP Capital Region community, Albany and Troy, and our existing K to 8 communities.

The Director of High School Expansion is responsible for coordinating with KIPP CAP Senior Leadership to develop an in depth high school expansion plan that would outline the steps needed to effectively scale our growing High School while also instituting several key programmatic innovations to prepare better our graduates to thrive in college, careers, and beyond. 

This role will be available from July 1, 2024, through December 31, 2025.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director would serve as project manager, partnering with KIPP Capital Region Leadership to accomplish the following:

  • Prepare for high school expansion by working to engage all community stakeholders, including current HS staff, students, and families, as well as the larger KIPP Capital Region community, Albany and Troy community, and K to 8 communities to ensure investment, alignment, and innovation in the final design.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of the high school expansion process and plan, ensuring all stakeholders drive work forward according to project timelines, goals, and directives on time for a successful high school opening in August 2025.
  • Ensure all planning supports KIPP Capital Region’s goals for all HS graduates.
  • Lead the collaboration between the instructional team, current HS staff, and the KIPP Foundation to design the HS instructional program.
  • Review the current high school expansion process and build effective project plans to move the work forward.
  • Launch HS working group(s) comprised of various stakeholders to get input and make decisions on programming, operations, design, and student enrollment.
  • Update the KIPP Capital Region community regularly and serve as a point person for questions so stakeholders stay engaged and informed about the high school launch process.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for expanding the KIPP CAP high school program to the new location.

  • Liaise with the construction team to monitor construction progress and serve as the first point of contact for questions.
  • Work with regional and school teams to design and monitor the implementation of a process to hit a goal of 90% of current 8th graders continuing with KIPP in 9th grade.
  • Create meaningful opportunities for community partnerships between the school community and the surrounding communities, including partnerships focused on bridge building and community safety.
  • Establish and lead a Summer 2025 facility transition (from the current high school to a new facility) and school opening plan.
  • Review the current state of the high school expansion process and continue building effective project plans to drive work forward, up to and including:
    • Building plans, operational and financial imperatives
    • Planning of existing HS Working Group and launch of an Advisory Group
    • Collaborate with existing KIPP CAP high school sites to identify areas for growth and improvement
  • Survey of key stakeholders in the region to identify current attitudes and potential programmatic shifts.
  • Build relationships with local stakeholders, including community leaders, educators, and policymakers.
  • Scope the necessary research items to inform the HS expansion's planning and development process.
  • Through research, site visits, and interviews with KIPP CAP leaders and highly regarded high school practitioners, craft an instructional vision that will outline course offerings and pedagogical approaches across departments.
  • Create a comprehensive plan for the High School's arts, sports, culture, and technology initiatives.
  • Design a high school expansion process and plan incorporating KIPP CAP regional and current high school goals, grounded in our KIPP CAP High Graduate Aims.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of the high school expansion process and plan, ensuring all stakeholders drive work forward according to project timelines, goals, and directives.

  • Perform other duties outlined by the Senior Executive Leadership Team and MD of Schools Principal Manager for the KIPP Capital Region High School.

  • Complies with all charter, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Advanced knowledge of all Microsoft Office Applications, working knowledge of Project Management software, various School Information Systems, and related software applications.
  • Understanding of working directly with students, preferably required in the charter, private, or public school environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
  • Passionate commitment to improve the minds, characters, and lives of students both in and out of school

  • Please note: Infrequent travel to different KIPP Capital Region schools is required
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University is required. Master’s degree preferred in applicable field of study (PMP, MBA, etc.).
  • At least 5-7 years of experience, with a minimum of 3 years of experience managing a small team and multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Prior experience working in a high school setting and urban communities is preferred.
  • Proven ability to indirectly manage and influence teams and individuals to meet specific and strategic outcomes.
  • Experience juggling multiple projects with competing priorities while working collaboratively with various departments in a fast-paced, growing environment across functional teams with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success managing a large budget with meticulous attention to detail and a clear understanding of how to read a detailed financial statement.
  • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

KIPP Capital Region offers a competitive salary ranging from $109,300 - $120,800.

Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale at point of hire.
