With the Troy Prep K-12 schools joining the KIPP Capital Region network for the 2022-2023 school year, our KIPP schools will serve more than 2,500 students across the Capital Region. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Managing Director of School Health (MDSH) is a key member of the Regional Leadership Team, reporting to the Chief Schools Officer. The MDSH will bring a demonstrated track record of excellence in School Operations and non-instructional school health metrics. The MDSH will be able to build and implement effective network-wide systems and will work closely with Schools and School Operations teams to create and lead school health initiatives and goals.

In partnership with the Chief Schools Officer and senior regional leaders, the MDSH will partner with schools to ensure excellence in student enrollment, student persistence, attendance, behavior systems, and family and community partnership, among others. Additionally, the MDSH will serve as a key bridge between the regional team and schools to ensure regional teammates are effectively deployed to support schools.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with school teams to ensure they meet all operational, financial, and non-academic goals, ensuring a sustainable and mission-aligned organization at all levels.
  • In conjunction with the CSO, define school health metrics and goals and support school teams in reaching goals.
  • Oversee support to school operations leaders and teams and serve as a liaison to ensure that schools get support from different regional team members.
  • Create and maintain a dashboard of the metrics to allow for effective monitoring and timely intervention, and data-informed decision making.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Schools Officer to deliver effective professional development to DOOs, Deans of Culture, including planning and delivering effective Professional Development.
  • Coordinate across the region to identify common trends in priorities across schools, identify opportunities to build collaboration and common work across schools, and potential regional professional development to create, share, and capture knowledge and expertise.
  • Provide guidance and support to schools during school crisis
  • Oversee professional development to build an internal talent pipeline and foster a strong professional learning community for operations leadership and support
  • Serve as a key member of the Schools team, building organizational culture and supporting organizational initiatives

Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead the Staff Development Cycle for all campus leadership teams: Goal-setting, Progress Towards Goals & Talent Review, and End of Year Performance Reviews.
  • Collaborate with the CSO and Principal to ensure the DOO achieves proficiency in 90% of the core skills and competencies identified by the regional team.
  • Lead development for Directors of Operations (DOOs) and Deans of Students across the region to achieve campus metrics and goals.
  • Conduct weekly school walkthroughs with Deans of Students to identify school-wide trends and areas of improvement.
  • Coach and development DOOs to build and monitor campus operations systems, including arrival, dismissal, enrollment verification, attendance procedures, and other key priorities.
  • Establish supports and operating mechanisms to coach and develop Deans of Students to lead and monitor student culture metrics.
  • Develop trusting relationships with the Directors of Operations and consistently receive high quality transformational development that increases their effectiveness and outcomes at their schools.
  • Supports the development of DOOs in designing and leveraging their campus operations teams and establishing an effective operations partnership.
  • Serves as a thought partner to direct reports as they lead their respective teams; coaches and supports direct reports to address their key roles and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with regional team and campus principal to complete tri-annual performance evaluations for DOO: BOY, MOY, and EOY.
  • Partner with regional support teams on all operational specific initiatives and systems.
  • Builds a strong, cohesive team culture that reflects KIPP Capital Region values and vision.

Data Use, Data Reporting & Analysis

  • Analyze school culture and operations data to identify gaps in school systems and make necessary adjustments for successful outcomes and compliance.
  • Leverage data strategically to support DOOs and Deans of Students in meeting their goals and improving student and school outcomes.
  • Drive goals and use data in making decisions, providing in-depth monitoring of regional performance metrics and producing compelling plans to motivate and inspire others to act and share investment in achieving operating outcomes.
  • Build and maintain data reports and visualizations to display school management results and key performance metrics.

  • Advanced knowledge of all Microsoft Office Applications, working knowledge of Project Management software, various School Information Systems, and related software applications.
  • Understanding of working directly with students, preferably required in the charter, private, or public school environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University required; Master’s or Advanced Degree preferred
  • At least 10 years of experience, with 5 years of successful team management, including motivating and developing high performing teams to deliver results.
  • Preferred experience working directly with students, preferably required in the charter, private, or public school environment, particularly in School Operations.
  • Experience juggling multiple projects with competing priorities while working collaboratively with various departments in a fast-paced, growing environment across functional teams with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strongly established computer literacy, including but not limited to MS Office Suite and other School Information database systems.
  • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
  • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

KIPP Capital Region offers a competitive salary ranging from $128,300 - $141,800.

Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our compensation salary scale at the point of hire.
