Underwriting is a fascinating career involving research, data analysis, and making decisions based on judgement, and we’re seeking candidates to come in on the ground floor into our Associate Underwriter position. A typical day as an Associate Underwriter might include…

  • Underwriting commercial insurance risks: reviewing, analyzing, accepting, and declining risks to ensure profitability for Kinsale.
  • Communicating with management on individual accounts, current and proposed producers, and recommendations concerning operations, systems, and procedures when appropriate.
  • Underwriting and selecting new business that will produce an underwriting profit.
  • Reviewing submissions to identify exposure/risk and determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges.
  • Monitoring producers for profitability and production.
  • Marketing products to producers by coordinating marketing plan with various stakeholders in and outside Underwriting
  • Developing forms and coverages in partnership with others, as applicable.

  • PC literacy, with emphasis on Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

  • Professional experience demonstrating foundational decision-making, analytical, quantitative, and interpersonal skills, as well as room for growth.

  • A Bachelor’s degree, especially in business, economics, risk management, or related field.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including comfort with V-Lookup and PivotTable functions.
