Crisis Line Director (960)
Fresno, CA

The Crisis Line Director oversees all programs under the Central Valley Suicide Prevention Hotline (CVSPH) department. Programs include 988 suicide and crisis line, local crisis lines, Tulare County Access and AOD, Fresno Police Department 911/988 diversion line, after hours crisis lines for Calaveras County, Tuolumne County, Kings County, and Fresno County's Follow up program. The primary focus of this position is to oversee the operation of the department and ensure suicide/crisis prevention and intervention services deliver evidence based, best practices as determined by research from the American Association of Suicidology, SAMHS and 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

How will I contribute

  • Provide leadership to program staff ensuring client services meet or exceed contractual performance goals.
  • Ensure delivery of services in accordance with contracted guidelines. Uphold American Association of Suicidology and 988 crisis line service standards.
  • Provide both clinical and management leadership, direction, and vision for the entire program consistent with American Association of Suicidology, and 988 suicide and crisis lines.
  • Provide strategic management in order to advance the crisis line's program goals.
  • Provide oversight to daily crisis line center operations which include supervision of crisis line management staff as well as technology management.
  • Routinely assesses crisis line operations to ensure that best practices are utilized (crisis line counseling intervention models, technology, staffing ratios
  • Assist Senior leadership in the development of program budgets and ensure expenditures comply with approved budgets; monitors and evaluates budget issues and recommends corrective action.
  • Assist with crisis line related grant writing and fundraising efforts.
  • Oversee and direct outreach coordinator in outreach efforts in communities within the seven stakeholder counties in the Central Valley. Represent the CVSPH department and agency in the media and at conferences.
  • Collaborate with 7 stakeholder Counties in developing and implementing the objectives of the contract; develop outreach, and suicide prevention presentations, marketing and advertising strategies in line with the National Suicide Prevention and Local Suicide Prevention Collaborative Plans.
  • Conduct ongoing training on evidenced based suicide intervention, assessment, and prevention techniques.
  • Oversee development of staff to enhance their clinical crisis counseling skills. Ensure staff have available on call 24/7 clinical support to CVSPH team members, and interns.
  • Oversee social media suicide prevention campaign (Facebook, Instagram and website). Ensure that the program is in compliance with all American Association of Suicidology, National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and Kings View policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all CalMHSA reports and outcome measures are submitted in a timely manner. Develop and revise CVSPH policies and procedures and CVSPH Training Manual as needed.
  • Provide CVSPH County Stakeholders with data reporting: monthly, quarterly and annual call volume reports including annual report.
  • Attend monthly 988 crisis line meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What I bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Health or related
  • ASIST Certified
  • 4 years of leadership and program management experience in behavioral health or closely related field. Experience and high degree of comfort with public speaking, including media interviews, presentations to senior level executives, public officials, and other key policy makers.
  • Class C Driving License
  • Leadership experience in mental health/substance abuse care systems, and/or crisis services needed, especially in the non-profit or public health sector. Knowledge of crisis services and operations.
  • Excellent verbal, written and computer skills. Effective time management and organizational skills. Strong customer-service orientation. Excellent supervisory skills. Ability to foster teamwork, work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness. Ability to lead, positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the organization. Ability to be flexible and versatile in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and Efficiency. Ability to interpret and manage program budgets. Intermediate to advanced skills with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to develop collaborative relationships with other community crisis intervention providers and mental health educators by assisting with support and education to decrease the incidences of suicide among youth and adults.
  • 4 year crisis services experience preferred. Experience in overseeing quality care and monitoring performance indicators for a program is strongly preferred. Knowledge and expertise in public health issues such as capacity building and sustainability (funding streams, payment methods, performance efficiencies, etc.) preferred
