Summary

  • JOB SUMMARY
      Provides nutritional care to patients through assessment of nutritional need, development and implementation of care plans and education of patients and families. Evaluates and assists with the food service team to ensure meals and specific diets provided meet the regulatory and nutritional standards.
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Provides nutritional care through screenings, assessments, consultation and chart documentation; develops and implements nutrition care plans; develops and monitors tube feedings and TPN orders.
    • Consults with physician and other health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patients.
    • Assists, where needed, with the writing of modified diets; helps patients to choose balanced meals which meet the RDA's; maintains current nutritional care plans and plans simple or complex nourishments.
    • Utilizes the diet manual to implement doctors' orders. When appropriate, suggests review or revision of the diet manual based on current research. Teaches nutrition education, in-services and diet therapy to dietetic students and hospital personnel as requested.
    • Develops, evaluates, revises and implements nutrition care related forms and educational materials.
    • Instructs patients and their families as appropriate, on modified diets, nutritional principles, dietary plans, food selection, and preparation utilizing appropriate written materials. Appropriate documentation and follow-up are completed in a timely manner.
    • Inspects meals served for accuracy with prescribed diets and for standards of palatability and appearance.
    • Interviews patients to obtain information regarding food habits and preferences.
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
      Minimum requirement:
      • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics
      • Maintains Registered Dietitian credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
      • Maintains active dietician license in the State of Kentucky.
      Preferred qualifications:
      • One year experience
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • Frequently exposed to wet and humid conditions and extreme heat.
    • Constantly works near moving mechanical parts.
    • Constantlyexposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.
    • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme cold.
    • Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation.
    • Frequent stress associated with management of conflict situations, deadlines, change, employee vacancy and regulatory changes.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting)
    • Frequently required to walk and move about throughout the department and Medical Center.
    • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
    • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices
    • Frequently required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
    • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
    • Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
    • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
