King's Daughters' Health is Hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) Emergency Department (ED) Near Madison, IN

Working under moderate supervision, utilizes regulatory and HIPAA requirements, cultural sensitivity guidelines, Indiana Nurse Practice Act, Emergency Nurses Association standards, infection control requirements, and KDH organizational and nursing values, policies, and procedure, to ensure safe, quality patient care for all age groups. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provides quality patient care and treatment, with attention to continuity of care and patient advocacy, while maintaining a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for the patient and family
  • Utilizes proper technique when lifting, transferring, and ambulating patients for safety of self, patient, and other staff
  • Provides patient and family teaching
  • Documentation of care completed in the electronic health record
  • Knowledge of and ability to activate and implement hospital and community disaster plans
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently triage multiple patients and establish priorities of care
  • Knowledge of and ability to decontaminate patients and provide treatment for hazardous materials exposure
  • Excellence in providing appropriate patient care and documentation in legal related situations (i.e. child and elder abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, forensic cases, refusal of treatment/leaving against medical advice, etc.)
  • Ability to maintain calm, react appropriately, and function efficiently in high stress and emergency situations
  • Performs initial assessment of patient’s condition, determines priority of care, and begins emergency measures as necessary
  • Uses ethical principles, collaboration, and evidence based practice to coordinate nursing and interdisciplinary team for patient care
  • Facilitates communication between the physician/APN and patient/family
  • Utilizes excellent customer service standards and Studer principles in communicating with patient, family and coworkers through use of verbal amenities, pleasant facial and body expressions as well as pleasant voice tone
  • Ensures work areas are clean and orderly
  • Participates in departmental QAPI process and patient experience initiatives

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing ASN or BSN program, BSN preferred. Possesses and maintains Indiana RN licensure. Experienced RN with 2 years critical care or Emergency Department experience preferred. CEN preferred. Required:

  • Ability to provide compassion, clinical reasoning, decision-making, and critical thinking in a therapeutic environment appropriate to age and diagnosis of patients served
  • Excellent oral communication skills to discuss patient care needs
  • Excellent non-verbal communication skills (presence, touch, eye contact, etc.) with patients, families and other staff
  • Written communication skills as well as computer skills for documentation in the medical record
  • Works well in a team and has ability to exercise independent judgment as well as to react quickly, appropriately, and efficiently in any situation
  • Demonstrates openness to change and new learning
  • Demonstrates customer service skills to provide exceptional patient and family experience
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice, as well as human and psycho-social needs
  • Ability to apply nursing techniques to patient care situations and provide an individualized plan of care to the patient
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions in detail.
  • Demonstrates accountability for own actions, understands own limitations, seeks advice and assistance when necessary, and assumes responsibility for personal growth and skill development
  • Maintains AHA BLS. Requires completion of AHA PALS and AHA ACLS within one years of employment and maintains the certifications. Must successfully complete basic EKG course within one year of employment.
  • Recommend certification in ENA TNCC and ENA ENPC within the first year of employment.
