JOB DESCRIPTION

Industrial Hygienist (Occupational Health & Safety Specialist)

Location- Norwalk, CT

King Industries, Inc. is actively seeking to hire an Industrial Hygienist within our Safety & Health Department. Ideal candidates should have a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science or a related field, and should also have in-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, such as OSHA standards, EPA regulations and local health and safety laws.

Skills Required:

  • Strong knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Maintain and improve current IH programs. Manage Respiratory, PPE, Hazcomm/GHS, Noise and Ergonomic initiatives.
  • Proficient in conducting exposure assessments, air sampling, and noise monitoring. Make sure all baseline assessments are performed and completed.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make sound recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of designing and maintaining Industrial Ventilation Systems.
  • Strong understanding of engineering controls and PPE selection and usage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to develop and present training programs and/or drills.
  • Ability to use safety suite software.

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 3 years of work experience in manufacturing setting desired.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, such as OSHA standards, EPA regulations, and local health and safety laws.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in conducting training programs and delivering presentations on industrial hygiene topics.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Outstanding people skills.
  • Proficient organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
  • Experience in training of personnel.
  • Safety Management techniques/strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the company’s industrial hygiene program to ensure regulatory compliance as mandated by federal, state and local agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • Develop industrial hygiene procedures and protocols and advises personnel of same.
  • Respond to and investigate reports of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; submits recommendations, and/or takes appropriate action in order to mitigate potential safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Respond to all emergency conditions that include injuries or illnesses, spills, fires and security issues, as needed.
  • Oversee the development and presentation of environmental health and safety training programs in field of expertise.
  • Attend training classes to remain current in knowledge of standards, job requirements and pre-requisite skills.
  • Perform baseline qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments for all production, laboratory and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain the company’s Personal Protective Equipment and Respiratory Protection Programs.
  • Manage and maintain SDS’s for all chemicals handled on site.
  • Maintain the company’s HAZCOM program.
  • Help develop and maintain Job Hazard Analyses.
  • Assist with developing annual objectives with the Worker’s Compensation insurer.
  • Maintain a general knowledge of OSHA regulations, especially those that pertain to worker protections.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Safety and Health Manager.
  • Evaluate ergonomic risks and work to develop solutions.
  • Lead laboratory safety.
  • Maintain Confined Space Program.
  • Maintain Noise Program.
  • Evaluate and recommend system improvements as they relate to area of expertise.
  • Maintain and improve local exhaust ventilation systems.
