Summary

Note : This position is ONLY open to current career service employees within the Parks and Recreation Division of King County's Department Natural Resources and Parks.

The Parks Operation Section has an exciting promotional opening for a Park Specialist III (PS III) position. This is a great opportunity to expand your skillset in areas of leadership development, technical skills, and project management.

About the Role :

The PS III position will work across all our Operations work units to help standardize and streamline processes, ensuring a consistent experience for parks users, staff, and customers.

Projects will vary in subject matter but will consistently focus on streamlining processes, creating training materials and manuals, presenting materials, and addressing technical questions related to the specific PS III focus.

Job Duties

What You Will Be Doing :

  • Assist in workload planning, prioritizing, and assigning program work schedules.
  • Lead, coordinate, and assist teams in assigned duties; resolve issues; and oversee and monitor project quality.
  • Develop and provide standardized processes and training.
  • Observe and provide feedback to supervisors, for performance and work deliverables.
  • Develop reports, apply for and obtain permits, assist with timesheet approvals, and facilitate work orders through Lucity Asset Management System.
  • Investigate and resolve public complaints and inquiries; refer sensitive issues to supervisor; and promote good relationships with the public and user groups.
  • Serve as a backup for coverage as needed.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Qualifications You Bring :

  • At least three years of full-time park maintenance work experience or similar general maintenance experience requiring independent responsibility for completion of work assignments.
  • Knowledge of and experience in parks maintenance operations and procedures.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and to prioritize work tasks.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service and to handle difficult situations.
  • Ability in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and communications with supervisors, parks staff and the public.
  • Ability to lead, direct and / or train others.

Required Licenses :

Valid Washington State Driver's License

  • Herbicide license
  • Pacific Northwest Resource Management School Certificate
  • Experience with Microsoft suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams), Adobe Pro, internet research.
  • LEAN Green Belt Certification
  • Valid Flaggers Card

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions :

  • Primary Worksite Location : Marymoor Park
  • Work Schedule : This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime-eligible.

This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. Work weeks vary depending on work assignment, some shifts include weekend work.

Union Representation : This position is represented by S.E.I.U. Local 925, Parks and Recreation.
