Summary

King County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is internationally recognized as the leader in setting the standards for pre-hospital emergency medical care. The Instructional Designer position will coordinate with Training & Education Staff, associated subject matter experts and technical support staff to complete training modules in various stages of completion.

Job Duties

  • Design and develop web-based online learning solutions, using sound adult learning and instructional design principles, and online design methodologies and standards that comply with existing business requirements (re-certification and accreditation requirements).
  • Coordinate and collaborate with project/program managers, subject matter experts, IT professionals, videographer, and others in the development of online courses, completing modules by target deadline.
  • Design and develop text, graphics, interactions, and assessment instruments for online courses, and effectively integrate these into final course deliverable.
  • Offer instructional design expertise, as needed during course design and development process.
  • Work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision, while staying connected by regularly communicating progress with manager.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Required:

  • Experience taking a lead role in collaborating with subject matter experts, technical support staff and other partners, to successfully complete online courses and related projects.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in the design, development and evaluation on online/Web-based training using instructional design methodology, and the coordination of development activities at a level equivalent to skills developed through Instructional Design certification.
  • Demonstrated experience using instructional design models and writing clear instructional objectives. Knowledge of needs assessment and needs analysis, writing goals and objectives, standards, and design specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to write concisely, clearly, and in an organized manner. Collaborate with subject matter experts to verify the accuracy of content.
  • Demonstrated experience in instructional design using current instructional technologies such as: Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, Captivate, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of principles, practices, tools and trends of instructional design.
  • Digital Competency: Experience with digital learning environments and tools, including Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Cornerstone, Blackboard, or Canvas, and proficiency in multimedia production tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Windows operating system, basic desktop applications, internet tools, GPT 3.5 or 4.0 level AI, and various web/network utilities and content development software.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with team members, with varying levels of expertise and specialty backgrounds, to achieve business goals.
  • Experience in creating inclusive learning materials and media products that reflect both the diversity of our communities and our learners.
  • Washington State Driver's License or the ability to travel to work locations throughout King County with limited or no public transportation in a timely manner.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Expertise using Articulate Storyline, including working with custom templates, custom interactions, JavaScript and using Storyline API to communicate to other systems.
  • Experience creating 'gated' learning content with advanced variables and triggers.
  • Experience working with or creating animation(s) using Vyond or similar API.
  • Experience working on medical/technical content.
  • Experience working with Camtasia, Premier Pro, or similar video editing applications.
  • Experience in managing educational projects, including timeline management and coordination with different partners.
  • Experience regarding the importance of staying current with emerging technologies in education and the ability to quickly learn and implement new tools.
  • Experience in developing mechanisms for receiving and incorporating feedback from learners into course design.
  • Experience working with first response/medical/telecommunicator.

Work Schedule:
This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not overtime eligible. The regular workweek is 40 hours, Monday through Friday. Occasional evenings, weekends, on-call work, and some travel are required.
Some of the work associated with this position will be performed through teleworking, and will report to office location and to meetings as needed. Travel to other work locations may be necessary. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. To support employees during this time King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team
