JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Education Specialist

REPORTS TO: Principal

QUALIFICATIONS AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university
  • California Education Specialist Mild to Moderate Credential
  • Employment is contingent on satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and negative TB skin test or chest X-ray.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to administer formal and informal assessment (e.g. WJIV, TOWL, Brigance, etc.)
  • Create and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students qualifying for special education services in consultation with other IEP team members (e.g. parents, general education teachers, and other related service providers.
  • Ability to create special education schedules to provide Specialized Academic Instruction (SAI) to students with IEPs
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to design instruction, both individual and small group, which parallels the general education curriculum and the student’s IEP goals to implement in the general education classroom.
  • Case manage a caseload to ensure proper implementation of of the IEP and adherence to IEP timelines.
  • Maintain and update student data in SEIS and in the Special Education file.
  • Monitor student progress by using data collection during progress reports to support research-based instruction and to demonstrate student achievement.
  • Implement behavior management techniques as appropriate to student IEPs.
  • Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with all school personnel, parents, other agencies for the best interests of each student.
  • Attend special education team meetings, Professional Learning Community meetings (PLCs), and professional development trainings.
  • Keep up to date knowledge of Special Education instruction, practices, and law in order to provide appropriate Special Education recommendations and services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Abilities:

  • Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to assist students.
  • Hearing and speaking clearly to exchange information and make presentations.
  • Seeing to read, prepare and review a variety of activities and to monitor student activities.
  • Lift and carry items up to 20 lbs.
  • Walking and standing for extended periods of time to provide instruction and to escort students around campus.
  • Sitting in order to work at desks or tables.

Hazards:

  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases and contact with blood and other body fluids.
  • Potential exposure to physical injury from aggressive behavior.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $62,535.00 - $93,767.00 per year
