Description

Purpose

Provide evaluative, therapeutic, and consultative services for children who are delayed or disordered in speech, language, feeding, social, cognitive, and/or hearing abilities.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assess each child’s developmental level of functioning, including formal evaluations of performance. Design and implement treatment plans accordingly.
  • Complete relevant paperwork, including, but not limited to, progress notes, treatment plans, evaluation reports, and exit reports according to agency and practice standards.
  • Review medical reports; update medical referral forms; and seek medical referral, consultation, and advice as needed.
  • Discuss and stay abreast of insurance coverage and needs with the family
  • Deliver services within a family-centered approach which effectively educate and collaborate with the child’s primary care givers.
  • Design and/or assist in developing alternative communication (AAC) systems, as needed.
  • Make referrals to appropriate community services or Kindering programs as needed.
  • Provide or support outreach, intensive informing, care planning, coordination, anticipatory guidance for complex health needs, assistance to access services, consultation, resource development, interagency coordination, training, program planning, quality management, and administration to support Medicaid programs

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience

  • Experience working with children, or a willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of overall child development, with extensive knowledge of the development of speech, language, social, cognitive, and feeding skills
  • Experience working with children with a variety of medical diagnoses, complex health needs, and developmental delays/disorders
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to collaborate with all members of a child’s team, both at Kindering and in the community
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Interest in continued professional development
  • Demonstrated skill in word processing and familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

Qualifications


Required Education, Certification, & Licensure

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (in fulfillment of the requirements of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association); eligible for Certificate of Clinical Compliance
  • Valid Washington State professional license
  • Experience working with children who have neuromuscular and developmental disorders
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule, including evening and possible weekend hours
  • Experience working with diverse populations. Bi-lingual preferred.

Minimum Prerequisites

  • Pass Washington State DSHS criminal history and background check and FBI fingerprint check
  • Demonstrate skill in word processing and familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
  • Be able to lift 40 pounds
  • Pass tuberculosis test
  • Have current CPR and first aid certification
