Kimley-Horn is Hiring an Environmental Planner Near Nashville, TN

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced (2 years) NEPA Planner to join our Nashville Environmental Team. As an NEPA Planner, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance process for both transportation and renewable energy projects. You will work closely with project teams, government agencies, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with NEPA regulations and facilitate the timely delivery of projects. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience in NEPA planning.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the NEPA compliance process, including the preparation of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), and Categorical Exclusions (CE)
  • Conduct thorough reviews of project documentation, including technical reports, studies, and analyses, to ensure compliance with NEPA regulations.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify potential environmental impacts and develop appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Facilitate public involvement activities, including public meetings and hearings, to gather input and address concerns related to NEPA compliance.
  • Liaise with government agencies, stakeholders, and Native American tribes to ensure their involvement and consultation throughout the NEPA process.
  • Prepare and submit NEPA-related documents to the relevant federal government agencies in a timely manner.
  • Stay up-to-date on NEPA regulations and industry best practices to ensure compliance and promote innovative approaches to environmental planning
  • Provide guidance and support to project teams regarding NEPA compliance requirements and processes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to streamline the NEPA process and improve project delivery timelines.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including records of NEPA-related communications and decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a related field
  • Minimum of two years of experience in NEPA planning
  • Strong knowledge of NEPA regulations
  • Experience in preparing EIS, EA, and CE documents
  • Familiarity with software and tools, such as ArcGIS and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex environmental planning concepts to diverse stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and identify innovative solutions
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality work on time and within budget
