The Housekeeper/Laundry Operator will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and sanitary conditions throughout the entire facility in compliance with the Department of Health Standards under the direction of Housekeeping Director. Will work closely with facility Administrators and staff to maintain a safe, home-alike atmosphere. Maintain Rights of Residents as set forth by the Texas Department of Health Laws and Regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Changes bed linen.
  • Cleans resident room, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, and other common areas.
  • Sweeps and mops floors. Dusts furniture and equipment.
  • Washes walls and woodwork.
  • Washes windows, door panels, and sills
  • Empties trash and waste to disposal area.
  • Replenishes supplies in resident suites, on housekeeping carts, and throughout the facility as required.
  • Transports small equipment or tools between departments.
  • Knowledgeable of and utilizes equipment safely and appropriately.
  • Performs minor maintenance tasks such as unplugging toilets, changing light bulbs, etc.
  • Assists residents to and from meals or activities on occasions as required.
  • Knowledgeable of and implements all safety, universal precautions, and Company policies/procedures for the protection of residents, co-workers, and self.
  • Collects soiled laundry from residents.
  • Sorts laundry and tags appropriately.
  • Launders all items appropriately (all items to be dry-cleaned shall be labeled, sent to the dry-cleaners, and received from the dry-cleaners on a regular weekly schedule).
  • Launders facility linens, dietary aprons, towels, etc. appropriately.
  • Dries laundry appropriately.
  • Steam presses items as needed.
  • Returns clean laundry to residents.
  • Communicates with the residents and/or families in regard to any and all concerns with personal laundry.

PHYSICAL, COGNITIVE, AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
  • Ability to remain calm under stress.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, tact, courtesy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile residents within the facility.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Must be able to lift and transfer a minimum of 50 pounds.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Housekeeping/Laundry Operator will be responsible for the complete laundering of the residents’ personal items and/or table linen under the direction of the Housekeeping Director. It will be the responsibility of the Laundry Operator to have full working knowledge of the laundry equipment and proper procedure/method of laundering items, to ensure the highest quality of care of the residents’ personal belongings. Ideal candidates will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and sanitary conditions throughout the entire facility in compliance with the Department of Health Standards under the direction of Housekeeping Director. Will work closely with facility Administrators and staff to maintain a safe, home-like atmosphere.

Maintain Rights of Residents as set forth by the Texas Department of Health Laws and Regulations.
