Position Summary : Kilgore College East Texas Oil Museum is seeking a qualified candidate for the Part-Time Archival Scanning Specialist position.

This exciting opportunity involves playing a crucial role in preserving and digitizing our extensive collection of historical documents, photographs, and materials related to the East Texas oil industry.

Goals : Preservation of Historical Materials : Digitize and preserve historical documents, photographs, and materials, safeguarding them against physical degradation and ensuring their longevity for future generations.

Enhanced Accessibility : Improve accessibility to historical resources by creating a comprehensive and organized digital archive.

Quality Assurance : Uphold high-quality standards in the scanning process, ensuring that digital reproductions accurately represent the original materials in both content and visual fidelity.

Educational Support : Contribute to educational initiatives by making digitized materials available for researchers, scholars, and the general public.

This may involve supporting exhibitions, research projects, and educational programs. Technical Maintenance : Undertake regular maintenance of scanning equipment to guarantee optimal functionality, minimizing downtime, and maximizing efficiency in the digitization process.

Integration of Technology : Explore opportunities to leverage emerging technologies for improved archival practices, ensuring the museum remains at the forefront of digital preservation.

Position Responsibilities : Digitization of Archives : Utilize scanning equipment to convert historical documents, photographs, and other materials into digital formats.

Quality Control : Ensure the accuracy and quality of scanned images, maintaining high standards for archival preservation.

Data Entry : Organize and catalog digital files, providing detailed metadata for easy retrieval and reference. Collaboration : Work closely with museum staff and archivists to understand the significance of materials and prioritize items for scanning.

Equipment Maintenance : Perform routine maintenance on scanning equipment to ensure optimal functionality. Minimum Position Requirements : Technical Skills : Proficiency in operating archival scanning equipment and familiarity with relevant software for image processing.

Attention to Detail : Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to digitize and catalog archival materials accurately.

Communication : Ability to communicate effectively with museum staff, researchers, and visitors. Knowledge of Archival Standards : Basic archival and preservation standards knowledge is preferred.

Flexibility : Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Eligible for employment in the United States Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment : (BELOW is the standard’ some positions may have alternative items as well) Work is normally performed in a typical museum office environment.

No or very limited physical effort is required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 15 pounds.

No or minimal exposure to physical risk. Salary Range & Fringe Benefits : The rate of pay is $12 per hour for up to 19 hours per week.
