KILGORE COLLEGE is Hiring an Instructional Dean- Liberal and Fine Arts Near Kilgore, TX

Position summary:

With approximately 6,000 students, Kilgore College is a student-centered, residential community college, characterized by excellence in teaching and learning. The Dean of Liberal and Fine Arts provides academic leadership and administrative support to the division’s faculty and staff. Some of the areas within the division include Humanities, Social Sciences, Band, Choir, Theater and the Texas Shakespeare Festival. Kilgore College is seeking an innovative leader who will work in support of the mission and goals of the College, with an entrepreneurial mindset. The programmatic scope of the division is made up primarily of educational options for academic transfer.

Position responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership for employees by exhibiting exemplary work habits, fiscal responsibility and personal professional development.
  • Contributes to the development of institutional goals, policies and direction as related to instruction.
  • Oversees staffing, evaluating, budgeting, course scheduling, and daily functioning of the division.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between the faculty and administration.
  • Is responsible for continuous quality improvement and institutional effectiveness of division programs and departments.
  • Ensures compliance with regulations of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and other agencies as required.
  • Serves as an active member of the instructional leadership team within Instruction and collaborates with fellow deans.
  • Support dual enrollment and lead and develop partnerships with the local community, transfer institutions, and service area high schools.
  • Travels to various campuses and additional locations to ensure and oversee academic operations and functions as needed.
  • Responds to and resolves academic faculty/student problems and concerns.
  • Facilitates communication between the Division of Liberal and Fine Arts and the college at large.
  • Position requires occasional after hours and weekend activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree that aligns with an area of the division or Master’s degree with relevant experience that aligns with an area of the division.
  • A minimum of three (3) years full time teaching in a related discipline or the equivalent part-time teaching in a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressive leadership experience in higher education, preferably at a department level or above.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Be able to work with little supervision and to work professionally and courteously with a diverse student and employee population.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Full-time community college teaching experience
  • Experience with dual credit
  • Demonstrated collaborative efforts between colleges and school districts.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • 5-7 Full-Time Direct Reports 0 Part-Time Direct Reports

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

Safety:

Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

  • Compensation for this 12-month position is commensurate with experience.
