KILGORE COLLEGE is Hiring an Accountant I Near Kilgore, TX

Position summary:The Accountant I will assist with accounting duties related to grants, general accounting, and various student account-related accounting responsibilities, which includes providing backup for the accountant position, and providing assistance to all areas of the business office as needed. Position responsibilities:

  • Monthly/Quarterly/Annual grant accounting – preparing reports with reconciliations for specific grants
  • Manage and ensure accuracy of Employee Tuition Grants, as well as being responsible for the accuracy of annual and other special student account charge processes.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for common cost allocations, and correcting journal entries as needed
  • Ability to interpret and apply statutes and rules and regulations as necessary
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
  • Perform all grant related duties including draw downs
  • Work closely with grant writers and submit grants timely
  • Perform duties related to registration, audit, or other time sensitive events
  • Assists with Third-Party Billing
  • Assist with generating and verifying 1098Ts
  • Complete budget transfers and modifications
  • Train as back up for the accountant position
  • Serve as a productive and participatory member of the Business Office team
  • Regular attendance of a full-time workday; excess hours may be required during peak periods
  • Attend necessary conferences and seminars to remain current in field
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting
  • Minimum experience of two years in similar position
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and the functioning of an accounting system
  • Excellent computer skills with strong skills in Excel spreadsheets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to keep accurate, detailed records while working on multiple projects
  • Must be able to handle high levels of stress
  • Must have very strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must be a self-starter who is expected to complete work in a timely manner

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Position responsibilities:
  • Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.
