Title: Mechatronic Research Engineer (multiple levels)

Position Summary:

Midnight Sun Technologies is seeking resumes from qualified Mechatronic Research Engineers (MTRE) to support a Federal research contract in McLean, VA. The MTRE will perform the mechanical design, fabrication, automation and control of laboratory experimental set-ups and testing apparatuses, and will perform the design, fabrication and testing of smart systems (robotics, smart sensors, etc.) for structures and construction research.

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Perform the mechanical design, fabrication, automation and control of laboratory experimental set-ups and testing apparatuses
• Perform the design, fabrication and testing of smart systems (robotics, smart sensors, etc.) for structures and construction research.
• Responsible for the planning, conducting, and reporting of geotechnical research projects performed under the contract.
• Conduct laboratory, field, and/or numerical experiments as outlined in the specific research focus areas for the Mechatronic research program.
• Program, operate, setup, and install instrumentation systems either in the laboratory or at field sites.
• Analyze data and review, comprehend, and synthesize the literature on a variety of topics within the research focus areas.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, or Mechatronics Engineering
• Laboratory experience that includes demonstrated work as an undergraduate research assistant in a robotics lab, intern experience in a robotics lab, or equivalent thereof.
• Must be able to obtain/maintain security clearance and site access.

Preferred Requirements:

• At least one year of post- undergraduate or professional experience working in a laboratory setting conducting research on robotics or automation. A Master of Science or Doctorate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering that includes robotics or automation laboratory experience will satisfy the one year of post- undergraduate or professional experience requirement.
• Four years of hands-on experience in planning, conducting, and reporting on mechatronics research including significant experience executing experimental testing in a laboratory.
