Summary:

The Teacher is responsible for assisting the Site Supervisor in the administration of an HS/SPS wrap-around program and in the planning, preparation, and execution of the program in conformance with the Head Start Performance Standards, State Preschool Guideline, Title 22 and Title 5 of the California Administrative Code.

Reporting Requirements:

The Teacher is directly supervised by the Site Supervisor.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Status and Classification:

This is a full-time, non-exempt, 10-month position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

§ Responsible for assisting the site supervisor in the development of and procedures for the operation of the center that conform to Head Start Performance Standards and/or State Preschool Guidelines, operational and staffing requirements of Title 22 of the California Administrative Code, and KidZCommunity policies and procedures.
§ Serves as substitute site supervisor in the absence of the site supervisor.
§ Assists in the record-keeping and ongoing child assessments that provide information on preschool children’s progress on the 8 required domains, elements and indicators when the child enters the program, at a midpoint in the year and at the end of the year. Ensures that the individualized plan addresses child interests, learning and development, temperament, language, cultural background ad learning style.
§ Assists the on-going monitoring to track patterns of progress and accomplishments for groups of children in the 8 domains of language, literacy, mathematics, science, creative arts, social and emotional development, approaches to learning and physical development and health. Ensures that the written curriculum goals are linked to the ongoing assessment and the children’s pattern of progress.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (continued):

§ Assist the parents in their involvement in the development of program services for the children, including parent conferences and the development of the curriculum.
§ Assists in the modification of activities; removes barriers and provides support as needed for inclusion of children with disabilities in the full ranged of program activities.
§ Assists parents in advocating for their child and assists in creating a transition plans as the child moves to public school or another childcare setting.
§ Assists in the preparation of group environment plans, daily routine schedule, observations, portfolios, creating and maintaining a developmentally appropriate learning environment, applying the principles, practices and philosophies of High/Scope.
§ Assists in meeting all children’s identifiable individual nutritional needs as applicable by law; ensuring that a variety of foods take into account cultural and ethnic preferences while providing nutrition education to parents and children in a family style setting.
§ Ensures that the health and safety of children is assured through: 1. Teaching children and parents preventative health practice; and 2. the establishment and practice of health emergency procedures including methods of handling suspected or known child abuse.
§ Adheres to the agency personnel policies and the Head Start performance standards as relates to work performance and personal conduct.
§ Assists in the preparation of active family’s files containing developmental screenings, official enrollment forms and applications and health history, emergency cards, immunization cards, waivers if required, monthly observations, medical reports and copies of referrals.
§ Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge:

§ Head Start Performance Standards, Title 22 and Title 5 CA Administrative code a plus.
§ Agency policies governing operations related to job duties, work performance and personal conduct.
§ Knowledge of child development principles
§ Age appropriate curriculum for preschool children.
§ Positive guidance techniques.
§ Health and safety for preschool age children, parent education techniques, community resources and effective personnel supervision.
§ Knowledge of common business software, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Mathematical Ability:

§ Basic mathematical skills.

Language Ability:

§ Correct English, including vocabulary, grammatical usage, spelling and punctuation.

Language Ability (continued):

§ Ability to read and write effectively.

Reasoning Abilities:

§ Maintain accurate records.
§ Work effectively with preschool children.
§ Work effectively with staff and parents.
§ Set up classroom environment.
§ Administer developmental assessments.
§ Prepare child activity plans and lesson plans.
§ Relate to persons from diverse cultures and to families from varied incomes.
§ Conduct educational home visits and participate in parent meetings, supervise staff and volunteers.
§ Supervision and management protocol, interpersonal relationship approaches, anger diffusion and conflict resolution techniques.

Experience:

Two (2) years of preschool teaching experience.

Education and Permit:

  • 24 ECE/CD units including core courses, plus 16 GE units. High/Scope Certification a plus.
  • A Teacher Permit must be, at minimum, applied for within 60 days of hire and maintained or upgraded throughout the course of employment.

Continuing Education and Permits:

  • Training as required.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:

  • Physical Activity: Constant sitting. Frequent bending, twisting and reaching. Occasional standing, walking, stooping crouching, crawling, carrying or driving; Ability to lift 45lbs.
  • Use of Senses: Ability to articulate a normal conversation with normal hearing whether verbal or over the telephone. Normal vision, corrected if necessary.
  • Environmental Conditions: The duties of this position are usually performed in a hazard-free indoor environment and occasionally outdoors in weather conditions. The noise level is moderate.
  • Atmospheric Conditions: No fumes, odors, dust, mildew, smoke, gasses or poor ventilation.

Other Requirements:

  • Department of Justice Fingerprint and child abuse index clearance.
  • Post-offer physical examination; TB clearance; proof of immunization or immunity to pertussis and measles; and annual flu vaccination or signed declination.
  • Valid Class C driver’s license, readily available and reliable transportation and minimum vehicle insurance as required by state law.
  • Current Pediatric First Aid Certificate; current Infant/Child CPR Certificate.

$150 Covid Enhancement per pay period until March 2023.
