• Good physical health. This is a prerequisite for caregivers at work with young children.
• Emotional maturity. The caregiver needs to be a person so secure with in themselves that they can function with principles rather than with perceptions. They can exert authority without requiring submission. They can work experimentally but not at random and they can admit mistakes without feeling humiliated.

• Courage. This means a strong, willing person who is able to work through whatever to care for the children.
• Integrity. They need to have a well-knit personality along with honesty and everything that they do.
• Self-awareness. As caregivers develop self-awareness, they improve each quality mentioned as well as self evaluation. Caregivers may help each other out towards self awareness through constructive criticism with mutual trust and respect. Quiet reflection and professional counseling may help as well.
