Khan Lab School is Hiring a Teaching Specialist Near Wichita, KS

Job Description

Job Description
Salary:

In 2012, Sal Khan wrote The One World Schoolhouse, in which he outlines how modern education developed and how Khan Academy came to be. But, most importantly, the book outlines a vision for the future of both in-person and online education given the tools we have and the need for many more people to participate in the knowledge economy. In 2014, He founded Khan Lab School to test and refine these ideas in an actual school setting.

Today, Khan Lab School has expanded to Wichita, KS as a 4th to 9th grade independent school that’s housed inside the brand new Wichita Learning Lab. The Lower School (4th-5th) cohort and Middle School (6th-8th) cohort will work in person. The High School (9th grade) will be a hybrid cohort that operates in-person and virtually with classmates across the Khan Schools Network.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

Teaching Specialists at Khan Lab School support students in their learning of core subjects, including, but not limited to, mathematics, history, science, computer science, and English with activities that enhance the classroom experience. While it is preferred if you specialize in STEM or Humanities, you may be required to work with students in other subject areas. Classes consist of project-based activities, seminar discussions, guided support, and real-world experiences.

  • Administer a range of assessments, including multiple choice quizzes/tests, short answer problems, laboratory reports, and longer-term projects.
  • Lead an Advisory of approximately 8-10 students. Work with students on social emotional and executive functioning skills and build authentic relationships with students.
  • Complete duties as assigned by the Wichita school director including, but not limited to, lunch supervision, goal time supervision, car drop-off/pick-up, mid-morning break, and front desk coverage.
  • Attend faculty meetings and professional development on Fridays.
  • Teach a trimester elective or facilitate a club, organization, or activity at Khan Lab School to be identified with the Wichita School Director.
  • Create real-world projects that are relevant to students and apply the knowledge they’ve learned or are learning through asynchronous curriculum and in-class activities.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when working with students, parents, peers, and community.
  • Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and learning needs.
  • Use assessment data effectively to inform and guide learning and to provide ongoing feedback to students and complete progress reports.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with students, families, teachers, and other professionals on a regular basis about student progress.
  • Invest in the life of the school by participating in professional development, team meetings, school events, and any and all aspects that support student growth.
  • Assist in developing school curriculum over the summer.
  • Other related job duties, as needed.
