Position Title: Teacher of Students with Moderate/Intensive Special NeedsClassification: ExemptPosition Type: Full time (185 day position)Salary: Teacher/Therapy Salary ScheduleProbationary Period: 90 daysReports To: Program SupervisorSummary/Objective: The Teacher is responsible for developing and coordinating educational services for students with significant special needs. It is the responsibility of the Teacher to develop, implement and track all IEP goals and objectives. This should include but not be limited to plans for instruction and modifies curriculum, scaffolds activities and differentiates instruction based upon each students individual learning style. The teacher must work with the teaching team to develop and effectively implement behavior support plans for students.Essential Functions/Duties: Develops and implements IEPs with clear and appropriate IEP goals and objectives.Develops programs to meet diverse student needs within the classroom and community settings.Develops appropriate curriculum consistent with the Common CORE standards.Integrates student IEP objectives into classroom curriculum.Designs and implements lesson plans and activities which incorporate student IEP goals and objectives.Develops and coordinates successful integration or transition plans for students.Models and implements appropriate behavior management and communication/language development strategies.Models and implements proper physical management/self help interventions.Models and implements proper lifting, transfer, and positioning techniques.Coordinates MCAS and MCAS Alternative Assessment administration.Structures classroom environment to provide optimal learning opportunities.Communicates effectively with sending District response team, student families, therapists and other team members.Demonstrates effective classroom management techniques.Supervises classroom staff, interns and volunteers.Other duties as assigned by Program Supervisor.Competency: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Skills required to perform responsibilities effectively.Common Teaching Competencies as found in 603 CMR 7.11(1)(b).Competencies required to maintain appropriate Special Needs certification.
