Complete Description:
SUMMARY:
The Application Developer/DBA II develops and maintains applications in accordance with DCIS life - cycle development standards. This position will analyze requirements for the development of new or existing application functionality and implement fixes or modifications to new or existing systems to ensure that systems function optimally and that all deadlines are met. Additionally, this position will act as a project lead within the DCIS development team mentoring other application developer and producing functional requirements. This position is also responsible for providing database administration and technical support for the county's databases.
 
Duties within this job may be considered to be essential to the restoration of services outside of normal business hours. Individuals in this job are required to answer such calls. At that time, it is the individual's responsibility to inform supervision if they are not capable of performing as directed.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Responsible for system design, development, implementation, installation and maintenance.
  • Maintain the performance, availability and recoverability of Oracle and MS SQL databases.
  • Monitor performance, connectivity, users, processes, backups perform troubleshooting and tuning.
  • Ensure proper functioning of integration and replication between database applications
  • Responsible for application related problem-solving and troubleshooting.
  • Provide production support of assigned applications, including patches and fixes.
  • Perform data conversion tasks via detailed and comprehensive extraction scripts, analysis of data relationship and data validation (qualitative and quantitative), and develop a plan to address invalid data issues.
  • Create, maintain and update documentation
  • Interface with Supervisor on project status.
  • Act as a project lead within the DCIS development team, leading 2-3 projects simultaneously.
  • Responsible for producing functional requirements from business use cases and articulating those requirements for application developers.
  • Mentor DCIS application developers with technical proficiency as well as development methodologies and practices.
  • Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.
 
QUALIFICATIONS/PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five to seven years of job-related experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of life cycle development methodology.
  • Ability to understand and follow the system design and architecture
  • Ability to learn and actively seek new skills and knowledge to keep up with the changing technology field
  • Ability to work with project cycles and manage rapid changes
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced environment, work under pressure and deadline
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to any given situation
  • Knowledge of application development technologies and tools specific to area of support..
  • Working knowledge of change control.
